Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an ester or lactone in high yield by simple operation by reacting a ketone with molecular oxygen and aldehyde in the absence of a metallic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A ketone of formula I [R and R are (substituted)alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group or R and R may form a ring together with adjacent carbonyl] (preferably cyclopentane, cyclohexane, etc.) is made to react with a molecular oxygen and an aldehyde of formula II [R is (substituted)alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.; (n) is 1-6] (preferably benzaldehyde) at 20-100 deg.C and ordinary pressure to 20atom for 10min to 48hr to provide the objective compound.
