Abstract: (A) A compound capable of forming a stable radical and selected from (A1) oxygen-atom-containing compounds each having a carbon-hydrogen bond at the adjacent position to an oxygen atom, (A2) carbonyl-group-containing compounds, and (A3) compounds each having a hydrocarbon group with a methine carbon atom is allowed to react with (B) a radical scavenging compound selected from, for example, (B1) unsaturated compounds, and (B2) compounds each having a hydrocarbon group with a methine carbon atom, in the presence of molecular oxygen by catalysis of, for example, an imide compound shown by the following formula (1): wherein each of R and R is a hydrogen atom or the like, where R and R may be combined to form a double bond, or an aromatic or non-aromatic ring; X is an oxygen atom or a hydroxyl group, to yield a product of an addition or substitution reaction of the compound (A) and the compound (B) or its oxidized product. The process can efficiently produce a variety of organic compounds by an addition or substitution reaction using molecular oxygen under mild conditions.

Abstract: A process produces an organic compound by allowing (A) a compound capable of generating a free radical to react with (B) at least one of esters and salts of nitrous acid in the presence of a nitrogen-containing cyclic compound constitutively having a skeleton represented by following Formula (i) in its ring: wherein X is an oxygen atom or an -OR group, and wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl-protecting group. Abstract: A process of the present invention produces a hydroxylactone by subjecting an unsaturated carboxylic acid having a double bond not conjugated to a carboxyl group or an ester thereof to (i) a reaction with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metallic compound containing a metallic element selected from W, Mo, V and Mn or (ii) a reaction with a peroxide containing the metallic element to thereby yield a corresponding hydroxylactone having a hydroxyl group combined with one of carbon atoms constituting the double bond and being cyclized at the other carbon atom position. The metallic compound may be one selected from oxides, oxoacids and salts thereof. The unsaturated carboxylic acid includes, for example, beta , gamma -unsaturated carboxylic acids, gamma , delta -unsaturated carboxylic acids, and delta , epsilon -unsaturated carboxylic acids. The process can produce hydroxylactones in high yields at low cost.

Abstract: A catalyst of the invention includes a cyclic acylurea compound having a cyclic acylurea skeleton represented by following Formula (I): wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl-protecting group; n is 1 or 2; G is a carbon atom or a nitrogen atom, where two Gs are the same or different when n is 2. The catalyst may include the cyclic acylurea compound and a metallic compound in combination. In the presence of the catalyst, (A) a compound capable of forming a radical is allowed to react with (B) a radical scavenging compound and thereby yields an addition or substitution reaction product of the compound (A) and the compound (B) or a derivative thereof. This catalyst can produce an organic compound with a high selectivity in a high yield as a result of, for example, an addition or substitution reaction under mild conditions.

Abstract: In the invented process for producing a nitro compound, an organic substrate and nitrogen dioxide are reacted in the presence of oxygen or are reacted in a molar ratio of nitrogen dioxide to the organic substrate of less than 1 to yield a corresponding nitro compound. The reaction may be performed in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide or other imide compounds. Such organic substrates include (a) aliphatic hydrocarbons, (b) alicyclic hydrocarbons, (c) non-aromatic heterocyclic compounds each having a carbon atom on a ring, which carbon atom is bonded to a hydrogen atom, (d) compounds each having a carbon-hydrogen bond at the adjacent position to an aromatic ring, and (e) compounds each having a carbon-hydrogen bond at the adjacent position to a carbonyl group. This process can efficiently nitrate an organic substrate even under relatively mild conditions.

Abstract: Un proceso para producir un ácido dicarboxílico por escisión oxidativa de un cicloalcano correspondiente con oxígeno, en el que la reacción se realiza en presencia de un catalizador que comprende un compuesto de imida y un compuesto metálico, estando representado el compuesto de imida por la siguiente Fórmula (I): (Ver fórmula) en la que R 1 y R 2 son iguales o diferentes y cada uno es un átomo de hidrógeno, un átomo de halógeno, un grupo alquilo, un grupo arilo, un grupo cicloalquilo, un grupo hidroxilo, un grupo alcoxi, un grupo carboxilo, un grupo alcoxicarbonilo o un grupo acilo, donde R 1 y R 2 pueden combinarse para formar un doble enlace, un anillo aromático o un anillo no aromático, X es un átomo de oxígeno o un grupo -OR, donde R es un átomo de hidrógeno o un grupo protector de hidroxilo; y en el que uno o dos del grupos imido cíclico N-sustituidos indicados en la fórmula pueden estar formados adicionalmente sobre el R 1 , R 2 o sobre el doble enlace, un anillo aromático o anillo no aromático formado por R 1 y R 2 en condiciones de una temperatura de reacción de 80ºC o mayor, una concentración del cicloalcano en el sistema del 25 al 95% en peso, y una cantidad del compuesto de imida de 0,000001 a 0,01 moles por mol de cicloalcano.

An invented method for modifying a polymer treats a polymer with an oxygen-atom-containing gas such as oxygen, carbon monoxide, a nitrogen oxide, or a sulfur oxide in the presence of the imide compound represented by the formula (1).
