Abstract: A catalyst for producing a poly-* small Greek alpha *-olefin which comprises a metallocene compound containing an element of group IVA bonded to an organic polymer containing an element of group IVB; and a process for producing a poly-* small Greek alpha *-olefin which comprises polymerizing an * small Greek alpha *-olefin in the presence of the above-described catalyst and also a specified aluminoxane as a co-catalyst. The catalyst comprises a polysiloxane having pendent groups selected from cyclopentadiene, fluorene and indene linked to a transition metal halide such as zirconium chloride. The catalyst is prepared by reacting R 2 Si(Hal) 2 where R is cyclopentadienyl, fluorenyl or indenyl with water followed by addition of butyllithium and a transition metal halide.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-mol.wt. cycloolefin polymer in good yiedls by polymerizing a cycloolefin or a cycloolefin having an unsaturated bond outside the ring in the presence of a specified polymerization catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polymerization catalyst is obtained by combining 10 -10 g atom/l (in terms of the metal) of a compound of a transition metal selected from among IVB, VB and VIII groups of the periodic table [e.g. palladium (II) acetate] with 10 -10g atom/l (in terms of Al) of aluminoxanes of formulas I and/or II (wherein R to R are each a hydrocarbon group; and n>=1) in a ratio of the number of the Al atoms to that of the transition metal atoms of 1-10 . A cycloolefin (e.g. cyclopropene) or a cycloolefin having an unsaturated bond outside the ring (e.g. 5-vinyl-2-norbornene) is polymerized at -50 to 230 deg.C in the presence of said polymerization catalyst to obtain a cycloolefin polymer comprising at least one kind of repeating units of formulas III-V [wherein R to R are each H, halogen or an (un)saturated hydrocarbon group; l and p each >=3; and m and n each >=0) and having a number-average mol.wt. (in terms of PS) of 700-200000.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for the production of a poly-α-olefin having a low atactic component and highly stereoregular isotactic component by impregnating a magnesium halide with an organometallic compound and forming only a recemic modification structure of a zirconium metallocene compound on its surface. SOLUTION: The organometallic compound used is a compound of formula I (wherein R and R are each an organic liquid such as cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, fluorenyl or a derivative thereof; M is a group IVB transition metal; and X is a halogen). This is reacted with a halide of a group IVA metal (M ) to obtain a compound represented by formula II (wherein M is an element typified by a group IVB element; R and R are each as defined in formula I; M is a group IVA transition metal element; and X and X are each a halogen). A magnesium halide is impregnated with the organometallic compound of formula II to obtain a catalyst for the production of a poly-α-olefin. This is combined with a promoter such as a water-modified organoaluminum compound of a trialkylaluminum compound of formula IV (wherein R is a 1-10C alkyl).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new catalyst for producing polyolefin capable of producing poly-α-olefin having high stereoregularity by allowing to comprise a new organic metal polymer in which a metal is coordinated to an organic polymer which binds metallocene ligands to the main chain. SOLUTION: This new catalyst for producing polyolefin comprises an organic metal polymer expressed by the formula, -[O-M R R M X2 ]n - (M is a typical element of IVB group in the periodic table; R and R are each a cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, etc.; M is a transition metal element of IVA group in the periodic table; X is a halogen; (n) is 4-18). The polymer can be preferably obtained by reacting an organic compound of the formula, R R M X2 with water to obtain an organic polymer to which a metal chloride of IV group is reacted. As M in the organic compound of the formula, R R M X2 , a chloride with zirconium is preferable. As a cocatalyst, methylaluminoxane obtained by reacting trimethylaluminum with water can be preferably used.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer of a narrow MW distribution in good efficiency by polymerizing a cycloolefin optionally having an unsaturated bond outside the ring in the presence of a catalyst comprising a combination of a transition metal compound with an aluminooxane. CONSTITUTION:The purpose polymer is obtained by polymerizing a cycloolefin optionally having an unsaturated bond outside the ring in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compound (a) and an aluminooxane (b). The compound (a) is one containing a metal selected from among group IV b, V b and VI b elements of the periodic table, among which a titanium or zirconium compound is desirable because of its high activity. A desirable form of this compound is one having a halogen atom, one having a halogen atom and a hydrocarbon group or one having an alkoxy group.
