    Abstract: To apply an even coating to a honeycomb structure with a coating powder, the honeycomb is initially treated with an application of a bonding agent. A recirculating flow of a carrier gas with the required vol. of powder is passed over its effective cross section surface in a closed circuit. It is blown in at the entry side and then recirculated a number of times through the honeycomb channels in a quantitative action to give an even radial and axial deposition. Also claimed is an appts. with two separate work stations (2,2') integrated in two separate tube sections (1,1') to hold the honeycomb body (10,10') to be coated. The ends of both tube sections have tube branches (3,4) before and after the work stations, connected to the pressure side (6) and suction side (5) of a gas recirculation fan (7) to be a closed gas circuit. Reverse units (8,9) in the closed tube system are in front of and behind the work stations so that the gas flow is released alternately to only one station. A blower jet (14,14') is at the inflow side of each work station to blow the coating powder into the separate tube sections. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is used for coating a honeycomb body with a powder, such as ceramic or metal bodies as catalysts for vehicle exhaust gas systems.
