Abstract: Rising energy costs demand energy-saving processes in the production of glazed and/or decorated ceramic mouldings. Ceramic mouldings which have been fired only once are known, but the pressed mouldings are mechanically unstable, difficult to handle and cannot be decorated and glazed in the wet state. Mouldings which are easy to handle and can be glazed and/or decorated are obtained if a silicic acid ester is added as a moulding aid to the ceramic compositions.

Abstract: A novel process for the preparation of inorganic pigments is described which is less personnel-intensive, and leads to briefer ignition times and thus to savings in energy. This is achieved by consolidating the powder mixture of the starting components to give moulded articles before ignition. Preferably, dense moulded articles having a large surface area and small thickness are produced.

Abstract: A novel ceramic colorant for colouring glazes green is described. The colorant gives very attractive green shades and is relatively insensitive to glaze changes. It has the composition (CunO)x.(V2O5)1-x, where n = 1 or 2, and x is between 0.01 and 0.99. Colorants which contain from 40 to 90% by weight of CuO have particularly attractive green shades.

Abstract: Crystal precipitation glazes are described which comprise from 60 to 90 % by weight of a frit, from 5 to 20 % by weight of a glaze additive and from 2 to 20 % by weight of an opacifier, and in which clearly visible crystals are formed and which give special glaze effects. The opacifier used is titanium dioxide, and the frit has the composition 60-70 % of SiO2, 4-8% of Al2O3, 3-15% of TiO, 2-4% of BaO, 5-10% of Li2O, 2-6% of NaO and 0.5-10% of CaO.
