Abstract: The invention relates to water-containing solutions of silicon-containing isothiuronium compounds, to their preparation and their use. For example, haloalkylalkoxysilanes can be reacted in a water-containing solution with thiourea derivatives, in which case isothiuronium compounds containing alkoxysilane or siloxane groups are obtained, which compounds can be processed further in the aqueous solution.

Abstract: Rising energy costs demand energy-saving processes in the production of glazed and/or decorated ceramic mouldings. Ceramic mouldings which have been fired only once are known, but the pressed mouldings are mechanically unstable, difficult to handle and cannot be decorated and glazed in the wet state. Mouldings which are easy to handle and can be glazed and/or decorated are obtained if a silicic acid ester is added as a moulding aid to the ceramic compositions.

Abstract: The subject of the invention is a process for the manufacture of (iodoorganyl)alkoxysilanes of the general formula: (1) in which R1 is an alkylene group, R2 is an alkoxy group and R3 and R4 an alkoxy group and/or an alkyl or aryl group, whereby the chlorine or bromine compound corresponding to that of formula (1) is caused to react with stoichiometric to double molar quantities of an inorganic iodine donor in the presence of 0.01-5 mol % of an organic substituted onium salt of nitrogen, phosphorus, arsenic or antimony or an organic substituted sulfonium salt or a crown ether as catalyst, in certain solubilizing agents.
