    Abstract: There are described luminescent materials based on zinc silicate activated with manganese which are not sensitive to impurities are not susceptible to pulverizing, are temperature stable, and are stable to the customary ceramic glazes. They comprise, consist of (or consist essentially of): 1.5 to 94.8 mole % zinc oxide (ZnO) 1 to 90 mole % Silicon dioxide (SiO2) 0.2 to 1.3 mole % Manganese oxide (MnO) 0.1 to 25 mole % Alkali oxide and/or Alkaline earth oxide and/or Titanium oxide (TiO2) and/or Zirconium oxide (ZrO2) and/or Chromium oxide (Cr2O3) and/or Lead oxide (PbO) 0.1 to 23.8 mole % Sodium oxide (Na2O) 1.3 to 24 mole % Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and 2.5 to 48 mole % Silicon dioxide (SiO2).

    Abstract: Compsns. for glazing ceramic substrates consist, by wt., of 60-90% frit, 5-20% clay minerals as glaze aggregates and 2-10% pref. pyrogenic TiO2, 2-4% BaO, 5-10% Li2O, 2-6% Na2O, 0.5-10% CaO and opt. up to 9% K2O. K2I addn leads to specific pptn. effects, e.g. using K-contg. frits it is possible to obtain a white fired claze contg. round, silvery shiny crystals having dia. 2-5mm. Clearly distinguishable crystals are formed and specific glazing effects can be obtd. on ceramics, e.g. wall-plates and flagstones.
