Abstract: 1,144,704. Rubber-metal bonding. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER SCHEIDEANSTALT VORMALS ROESSLER. 4 July, 1967 [6 July, 1966], No. 30744/67. Headings C3E, C3P and C3Q. A vulcanizable natural or synthetic rubber has added thereto one or more finely divided fillers selected from silica, aluminium silicate, and calcium silicate, together with an aldehyde or aldehyde donor and a phenol and/or amine as components which are capable of resin formation, whereafter the composition is vulcanized on to the metal. The composition may also contain carbon black. In order to further improve the adhesion, lead oxide, iron oxide, nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, manganese oxide, chromium oxide, cadmium oxide, or copper oxide can be added to the mixture.

Abstract: 1,126,146. Coating. DEUTSCHE GOLD- und SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. 3 Feb., 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 5409/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Rubber is bonded to a textile material by incorporating in the rubber a phenol or amine and an aldehyde which reacts with the phenol or amine on heating to form a resin, and from 10 to 100 parts by weight of active silica per 100 parts by weight of rubber, and vulcanising the rubber in contact with the textile. The composition may contain other fillers, such as carbon black, and heavy metal oxides, particularly lead oxide. The preferred reactants are resorcinol and formaldehyde (from hexamethylene tetramine). Suitable textiles are polyester, polyamide, and rayon and may be pretreated by a conventional solutioning process.

Abstract: A process for improving the adhesion of rubber mixtures, based on synthetic or natural rubber, containing active fillers, on treated or untreated textile fabrics, by means of condensation products based on phenols and/or amines and aldehydes capable of forming resins, by vulcanization of the mixtures on the support material, characterized in that active silicic acid of very fine particles and/or aluminum silicate and/or calcium silicate or calcium carbonate is added to the rubber mixtures, alone or in mixture with carbon black.
