    Abstract: Catalyst for the purification of pollutant exhaust gases produced by industrial processes and motor vehicles, by conversion of impurities contained therein to carbon dioxide and water and removal of nitrogen oxides at elevated temperatures in contact with air, comprises a hard-baked mixture of eta and gamma aluminum oxide and a mix of the oxides of chromium and at least one element of the first transition series, wherein the chromium oxide and oxide of the element of the First Transition Series comprises more than 50% by weight of the mixture with aluminum oxide. The catalyst may take the form of molded bodies which bodies are formed completely of catalytically active aluminum oxides containing said oxides of chromium and of an element of the First Transition Series.

    Abstract: A process for preparing an oxidic, carrier catalyst comprising at least one heavy metal compound as active component, said process comprising providing a carrier comprising a temperature resistant material with a catalytically active coating by intensively mixing said carrier with a binding agent, and at least one pulverulent, oxidic heavy metal compound or with a pulverulent mass containing at least one of said oxidic heavy metal compounds or at least one hydroxyl group-containing precursor of said heavy metal compounds, and subsequently heating the resulting mass to remove said binding agent. The catalyst and the process of using the catalyst in the purification of exhaust gases are provided.

    Abstract: A three-way catalyst is described for the purification of automobile exhaust gases formed of an active substance of platinum and rhodium and possibly base metal(s) at a certain weight ratio between the two noble metals and at a certain atomic ratio between the noble and the base metal, which are precipitated onto active aluminum oxide containing certain quantities of CeO2, ZrO2 and Fe2O3, and whereby the catalyst is obtained by impregnating active aluminum oxide, possibly stabilized with alkaline earth metal, with a solution of cerium, zirconium and iron salt which is thereupon calcined in air at 500 DEG -700 DEG C. and then treated after application of an impregnation of salts of the active substance components in a gas current containing hydrogen at temperatures below 650 DEG C.

    Abstract: Noble metal and non-noble metal oxide catalysts are deposited onto a continuing heat-resistant substrate by impregnating a particulate carrier, such as gamma-Al2O3 powder, with a catalyst precursor, and then depositing the impregnated and calcined catalyst carrier onto the substrate by flame-spraying. By this method, catalysts can be deposited on reactor walls or linings, baffles, etc.; this is in some cases more convenient than the use of catalyst carrier beds or other known methods. The adhesion of the catalyst carrier to the heat-resistant substrate is strong. Flame-spraying ensures that the porosity of the catalyst system and its specific surface area are sufficient for catalytic reactions. The method can be applied to treatment of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines.
