Abstract: In a process to speed up the heating of a catalyst beyond the activated threshold, additional heat energy is supplied to the catalyst from an external source during a limited activation period. The catalyst may be present as a single piece of material or in the form of a bulk solid, to present a defined face against which the incoming reaction media flow. The novelty is that the additional energy is directed at one or more limited insulated areas upon the catalyst surface. Further that the amount of heat introduced to reach the threshold temp. is determined according to heat losses, heat conductivity and heat radiation within the activation period.
