Abstract: PURPOSE: To form a catalyst for purifying exhaust gases capable of selectively reducing nitrogen oxides by supporting specific amounts of oxides of Ti, Sn, Be or the like and oxides, sulfates or the like of Fe and V on a honeycomb carrier. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst for purifying exhaust gases is obtained by molding a honeycomb carrier consisting of about 2-70 wt.% of CeO2 and 0-20 wt.% of ZrO2 as well as optional iron oxides, alkaline earth metal oxides and/or aluminum oxide of the transition column containing rare earth metal oxides and then, supporting catalytic components of Pt and/or Pd, optionally Rh on the honeycomb carrier. The harmful substances such as nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, ammonia slip from denitrification and sulfur dioxide contained in the exhaust gases are purified by bringing the exhaust gases into contact with the catalyst mentioned above.

Abstract: A complete catalyst for the oxidation of SO2 in O2-containing gas streams contains vanadium oxide and alkali metal oxide or alkali metal sulphate as active substance, silicon and/or aluminium in the oxide form to increase the surface area and TiO2 in the form of anatase and/or rutile as support material and ceramic binder. The metals in these finely particulate sintered components, performing discrete functions, are present in defined atomic ratios. The finely particulate sintering is carried out by a production process principally by means of diverse drying, calcination and sintering conditions. The main area of application of the invention is the desulphurisation of waste gases from combustion processes and industrial plants.

Abstract: The invention relates to an advantageous further development of a process for purifying flue gases which contain oxides of nitrogen and sulphur from a combustion plant by selective catalytic reduction of the nitrogen oxides, subsequent catalytic oxidation of sulphuric dioxide with oxygen to give sulphur trioxide and washing the sulphur trioxide out of the flue gases as aqueous sulphuric acid. The further development according to the invention relates to concentrating the aqueous sulphuric acid to more than 95 wt. % strength sulphuric acid.
