Abstract: Aq. solns. of Na peroxomonosulphate (NaHSO5) (I) contg. 5-50 wt.% of (I) are prepd. by partial neutralisation of a soln. contg. Caro's acid, (H2SO5), H2SO4 and less than 3 pts. wt. of H2O w.r.t. 100 pts. wt. of Caro's acid, at below 50 deg.C, with NaOH or Na2CO3, up to an equiv. ratio of total SO3: Na ions of 1 : 1-1.3, and opt. adjusting the content of NaHSO5 by dilution with water, or distn. of water under reduced pressure during or after the neutralisation. The soln. contg. Caro's acid and H2SO4 is prepd. by converting H2SO4 or oleum with at least 50 wt.% aq. H2O2, or electrolysis of an at least 30 wt.% aq. H2SO4, followed by hydrolysis of the peroxodisulphuric acid formed.
