Abstract: The invention relates to the disodium salt of trimercapto-s-triazine hexahydrate (TMT-Na2 &cirf& 6 H2O), to a process for its preparation, and to its use. The solubility in water of TMT-Na2 &cirf& 6 H2O is considerably greater than that of previously known sodium salts of TMT. It is used for separating off heavy metals from an aqueous phase, in particular from waste water. It is prepared by reacting TMT-Na3 &cirf& 9 H2O, which is accessible via cyanuric chloride, and trimercapto-s-triazine (TMT-H3) in a molar ratio of 2 to 2.1 to 1 in aqueous phase, followed by crystallisation of TMT-Na2 &cirf& 6 H2O.
