Abstract: Disclosed are neutral blue zirconium-vanadium pigments which do not display the disadvantages of previously known generic pigments, namely the high green component and the low color intensity and insufficient reproducibility in the case of neutral blue pigments. The neutral blue pigments with a rather high color intensity and good reproducibility are doped in the host lattice with phosphorus in addition to vanadium and are characterized by their color values in the CIE L*a*b* system. In order to produce such pigments, a zirconium-free mixture of powdery ZrO2, an SiO2 source, a vanadium compound and a phosphorus compound with an atomic ratio of Zr:Si:V:P=1:(0.95-1.10):(0.05-0.20):(0.005-0.03) as well as of a fluoride mineralizer is annealed after intensive grinding at 700 DEG to 900 DEG C.

Abstract: The invention relates to occlusion pigments based on zirconium silicate as the covering substance and cobalt-free spinels, preferably ZnFe2O4, NiFe2O4 or (Fe,Cr)3O4, as a discretely occluded coloured compound. Preparation is carried out by calcining a mixture of a source of zirconium dioxide, a source of silicon dioxide, mineralisers and cobalt-free oxides in a spinel-forming composition. The pigments are distinguished by their good glaze and colour stability as well as bleeding-out resistance under customary decorative firing conditions.

Abstract: Grey-black inclusion pigments are obtained by enclosing iron titanates of the formula FeTiO3 in zirconium silicate crystals. They are prepared by igniting a mixture of zirconium oxide having a particle size distribution of 6 to 10 mu m and a specific surface area of 2 to 5.2 m /g, silica and iron oxides and titanium oxides or iron compounds and titanium compounds forming oxides in the presence of mineralisers under oxidising conditions at 800 to 1300 DEG C.

Abstract: Coating inorganic materials (I) with noble metals (II) comprises thermal decomposition of ammonium chloro-metallates of the formula (NH4)2(MeCl6) (IIIA), (NH4)3(RhCl6) (IIIB) or (NH4)4(Ru2Cl10O) (IIIC) (where Me is Pd, Re, os, Ir and Pt) in the presence of (I), with exclusion of O2 and moisture, so that pure (II) is deposited on (I). Pref., (I) is mixed intimately and opt. triturated with (III) and opt. NH4Cl. The mixt. is suspended in aq. HC1 soln. at 90-110 deg.C until (III) passed into soln. completely, then the suspension is evaporated to dryness. The residue is dried at 250-300 deg.C in the presence of an inert gas, with exclusion of O2, until it is free from water, then thermal decomposition is carried out at a higher temp. of 380-450 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful in the mfr. of catalysts contg. 0.05-1.5 (wt.)% (II), e.g. for oxidn. of CO to CO2. It eliminates the need for redn. with H2 and the associated precautions to avoid explosions.

Abstract: The invention relates to occlusion pigments based on zirconium silicate as the covering substance and chromium(III) oxide as a discretely occluded coloured compound. The occluded Cr2O3 has a D50 value of 0.1 to 3.0 mu m and is a brilliant light green. Compared with non-occluded Cr2O3 having the same D50 value, the pigments according to the invention can be used without trouble for the production of decorations. They are also suitable for direct printing and high-temperature firing-on processes. The pigments are produced by calcining a mixture of zirconium dioxide, silicon dioxide, mineralisers and chromium oxide.
