    Abstract: A process for removing extractables from carbon blacks in a fluidized bed, wherein low extractable carbon blacks are treated under relatively mild temperature conditions (320 DEG C.) with an oxygen containing gas and high extractable carbon blacks are treated first at 100 DEG -320 DEG C. with steam and then at 200 DEG -500 DEG C. with an oxygen containing gas. A definition of classification in the "low extractable" and "high extractable" categories is given.

    Abstract: The present invention provides in a process for the preparation of furnace process carbon blacks by pyrolytic decomposition of a primary compound used in carbon black preparation comprising oxidising a fuel in a combustion chamber to generate a stream of hot combustion gases, passing of the gas stream into a mixing chamber which mixing chamber is narrower than said combustion chamber, introducing said primary compound into said mixing chamber, passing the resulting mixture forwardly into a reaction chamber which reaction chamber is wider than said mixing chamber and quenching the reaction mixture, the improvement in which the stream of hot combustion gases is passed through an annular channel into the mixing chamber or is passed into a mixing chamber which is in the form of an annular channel, the primary compound is injected from the center in an outward direction into said mixing chamber or said annular channel. The present invention also provides a device for the preparation of furnace process carbon stacks by pyrolytic decomposition comprising a chamber for the combustion of a fuel in an oxygen containing gas, a mixing chamber connected to said combustion chamber, said mixing chamber being substantially narrower than said combustion chamber, said mixing chamber being in the form of annular channel or has an annular channel between itself and said combustion chamber, a reaction chamber connected to said mixing chamber, said reaction chamber being wider than said mixing chamber, and an atomizer unit for the primary compound use in carbon black preparation with the nozzles directing the flow of said primary compound for the center in an outward direction, said atomizer nozzles being located upstream of said mixing chamber and downstream of said annular channel, or in said annular channel or in said mixing chamber in the form of an annular channel.
