Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus for atomizing a liquid by means of a gas comprising a nozzle at one end, a jacket pipe for gas contracting at said one end, a feed pipe for liquid arranged axially inside said jacket pipe and terminating therein as a constricted end, the length of both pipe ends in the axial direction being at most 10 times the inner diameter of the jacket tube. The apparatus is preferably used in the production of furnace blacks wherein the liquid hydrocarbon raw material is introduced into an atomizing stream of higher velocity and the dispersion is then separated into a reaction chamber.
Abstract:
The preparation according to the invention comprises resorcinol and at least one carbon black in homogeneous distribution. The preparation is preferably in the form of beads or granulates. The preferred granular form is attained when the resorcinol has an average particle size of 0.10 to 0.40 mm or is reduced to this average particle size during the production process. Furnace blacks having a specific particle surface area of approximately 40 to 120 square metres per gram, an average primary particle size of 20 to 45 nm and a dibutyl phthalate absorption of 45 to 130 millilitres per 100 grams are preferred as carbon blacks. The preparation according to the invention preferably has a weight ratio of carbon black to resorcin between 70 to 30 and 30 to 70. The upper limit of this weight ratio is 95 to 5. The process for producing the resorcinfiller preparation is also disclosed. Preferably two process steps are carried out namely a) first a treatment of the resorcinol which is in form of the usual platelets or small lumps, jointly with the powdered carbon black in a high speed mixer for several seconds and b) then preferably in another low-speed mixer while the product formed assumes a bead-like shape if the above condition of average particle size of the resorcinol is maintained. The resorcinol can also be applied in the molden form. For the use of the liquid resorcinol the high speed mixer has a heating device and, when required a cooling device, as well as a propeller type or a rough mixing tool. The use of the preparation of rubber adhesion mixtures for improving the adhesion of rubber vulcanizates on metal, textiles or glass fibre structures is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A process for removing extractables from carbon blacks in a fluidized bed, wherein low extractable carbon blacks are treated under relatively mild temperature conditions (320 DEG C.) with an oxygen containing gas and high extractable carbon blacks are treated first at 100 DEG -320 DEG C. with steam and then at 200 DEG -500 DEG C. with an oxygen containing gas. A definition of classification in the "low extractable" and "high extractable" categories is given.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a carbon black having the following physico-chemical characteristics: primary particle size nm 35 - 120 BET surface area sq m/q 10 - 50 iodine adsorption mg/g 10 - 55 volatile components % 2 - 8 pH value 3 - 6 acidity ml of 0.1N acid per 2 - 12 100 g of carbon black DBF number ml/100 g 40 - 140 The carbon black is useful in varnish systems such as varnishes and varnish parts.
Abstract:
Beaded carbon black is disclosed with a water content of 30 to 80% by weight which are used for coloring of paper and concrete. The product has the advantage of dust-free handling and a higher jet black color compared to conventional carbon black powder.
