Abstract: Disclosed herein is a syringe pump, wherein the syringe pump comprises a half nut assembly that engages a motor driven lead screw, where a barrel cam with a projection engages a slot in the half nut cam follower surface so as to make the half nut engage or disengage with the lead screw. Also disclosed are related methods using the syringe pump, such as a method for removing effects of slack in a syringe pump having a syringe loaded on the syringe pump.

Abstract: A method for removing the effects of slack in a syringe pump having a syringe loaded on the syringe pump, the syringe having a barrel and a plunger disposed within the barrel, the method comprising receiving a target flow rate of the syringe loaded on the syringe pump, determining a therapy actuation speed corresponding to the target flow rate, actuating the plunger of the syringe out of the barrel at a first predetermined speed until a force sensor coupled to the plunger measures a force that is less than a first predetermined force threshold, actuating the plunger of the syringe into the barrel at a second predetermined speed greater than the therapy actuation speed until the force sensor coupled to the plunger measures a force that exceeds a second predetermined threshold, and actuating the plunger of the syringe into the barrel at the therapy actuation speed.

Abstract: A pump for pumping fluid includes a tube platen, a plunger configured for actuation toward and away from the tube platen when the tube platen is disposed opposite to the plunger, a bias member configured to urge the plunger toward the tube platen, an inlet valve upstream of the plunger configured for actuation between an occluding position and a non-occluding position, an outlet valve downstream of the plunger configured for actuation between an occluding position and a non-occluding position, an actuator mechanism configured to control the actuation of the plunger, the inlet valve and the outlet valve, a pressure sensor disposed adjacent to at least one of the inlet valve, the outlet valve, and the plunger, and a processor coupled to the pressure sensor to receive a pressure signal from the pressure sensor, wherein, the inlet valve, the outlet valve, and the plunger are configured to pump fluid in a plurality of cycles, each cycle having a trough pressure level and a peak pressure level, and the processor is configured to, using the pressure signal, determine a downstream occlusion exists when a difference between a first trough pressure level of a first cycle and a second trough pressure level of a second cycle is greater than a predetermined threshold, the first and second cycles are cycles of the plurality of cycles, and wherein the plunger is configured to engage and disengage from the actuator mechanism and the pressure sensor is configured to measure the peak pressure level after the plunger disengages from the actuator in each cycle. Such an arrangement permits a pump which provides efficient and accurate notice of downstream occlusion in order to promote patient safety.

Abstract: SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETECTING VASCULAR ACCESS DISCONNECTION a vascular access has been interrupted in an arrangement in which two catheters or needles are present in a blood vessel, fistula or graft. A fluid line leading to a pump is connected via a first connector to a first indwelling catheter, and a fluid line leading from a pump is connected via a second connector to a second indwelling catheter. Each connector is equipped with an electrode in contact with the lumen of the connector, the electrodes electrically connected to an electronic circuit that measures the impedance or conductivity of fluid between the first connector and second connectors via a fluid path through the blood vessel, fistula or graft. An electronic controller receives the impedance or conductivity data and processes the data to determine whether a vascular access disconnection has occurred. The processing may involve filtering the signal received by the controller, and/or setting provisional flags for a disconnection event that may be cleared if the signal changes before the expiration of a counter. Abstract: The invention provides a pump for pumping fluid includes a tube platen, a plunger, a bias member, inlet and outlet valves, an actuator mechanism, a door having a lever and an interlock, a pressure sensor, and a processor. The plunger is configured for actuation toward and away from the infusion-tube when the tube platen is disposed opposite to the plunger. The bias member urges the plunger toward the tube platen. The inlet valve is upstream of the plunger and is configured for actuation between an occluding position and a non-occluding position. The outlet valve is downstream of the plunger and is configured for actuation between an occluding position and a non-occluding position. The actuator mechanism is configured to control the actuation of the plunger, the inlet valve and the outlet valve. The interlock is configured to mechanically engage the lever when the door is in an open position. The pressure sensor is disposed adjacent to at least one of the inlet valve, the outlet valve, and the plunger. The processor is coupled to the pressure sensor to receive a pressure signal from the pressure sensor. The inlet valve, the outlet valve, and the plunger are configured to pump fluid in a plurality of cycles, each cycle having a trough pressure level and a peak pressure level. By measuring variance in pressure levels, the pump is able to determine the presence of downstream occlusion which prevents or restricts pumping of the fluid.

Abstract: A method for discharging fluid from a syringe and for mitigating occlusion conditions includes actuating the plunger of a syringe into a barrel. The method monitors fluid pressure within the barrel of the syringe and determines that an occlusion exists when the fluid pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold. The method actuates the plunger out of the barrel by a predetermined amount in response to the detected occlusion and actuates the plunger of the syringe into the barrel until a measured fluid pressure within the barrel of the syringe exceeds another predetermined threshold.
