SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the display device which has an organic EL element pinched between a pair of holding substrates of which at least either is transparent, flexible sheet-shaped organic EL element is arranged between the pair of the holding substrates having the same shape so that a light-emitting side may face the transparent holding substrate and the holding substrates are fixed so that the curved surface portions can be matched to each other, then the organic EL element is deformed along the curved portion and can maintain in the same shape as the curved portion.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress display light from a display device from becoming hard to see due to the influence of external light in the combination of a touch panel and the display device. SOLUTION: A rugged part is formed on the outer surface of the polarizing plate 3 of the touch panel 1 and the rugged part is formed on the outer surface of the transparent electrodes 1c and 1d of the touch panel. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make injected liquid crystal not to creep into the gap between partition walls and to prevent a liquid crystal cell from having display unevenness by connecting partition walls between both electrode substrates at respective end parts on an opposite seal part. SOLUTION: Partition wall bodies 40 are coupled by a rear wall 42 at rear end parts 41a of respective partition walls 41. Even if liquid crystal parts which flow in between a left seal part 32 and a left partition wall 41, and a right seal part 33 and a right partition wall 41 enter the gap between the rear wall 42 and rear seal part 34, they are cut by the rear wall 42, so that they will not creep into the part between partition walls 41. The respective liquid crystal parts flowing in between the left seal part 32 and right seal part 33, and partition walls 41 and respective liquid crystal parts which flow in between adjacent partition walls 41 flow separately and are injected into the cell. The liqiud crystal parts which are different in injection speed never come into contact with each other, and consequently orientation disorder of smectic liqiud crystal which is easily caused at the contact border between the liquid crystal parts injected at different speed can be prevented. Consequently, the liquid crystal cell has no display unevenness.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily produce a liquid crystal electro-optical element using a ferroelectric liquid crystal which shows first to third stable states according to electric fields, by heating the ferroelectric liquid crystal to change into an isotropic liquid, filling the space between substrates with the isotropic liquid, and cooling the liquid to change into a chiral smectic phase. SOLUTION: A ferroelectric liquid crystal 6 in which the molecular orientation shows different first to third stable states when no electric field is applied or an electric field in one direction or an electric field in other direction is applied, respectively, is heated to obtain an isotropic liquid. The obtd. isotropic liquid is supplied to fill the space between a pair of electrode substrates 1, 2 and cooled to obtain a chiral smectic phase of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 6. By changing the liquid crystal into an isotropic liquid, it can be easily supplied to fill between the electrode substrates 1, 2. By cooling after filling, the ferroelectric liquid crystal 6 is changed into a chiral smectic phase having desired three states. The cooling process is preferably carried out at 0.1 to 1.0 deg.C/min cooling rate.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain such a threshold that transmittance of light begins to change at specified absolute voltage or higher by specifying the relation of pretilt angles and reverse tilt given to each of a first electrode substrate and a second electrode substrate. SOLUTION: When the voltage applied on both electrode substrates 11, 12 is low, liquid crystal molecules do not rotate. When a specified high voltage is applied, liquid crystal molecules 13a (negative side liquid crystal molecule) on the negative side of the center line of a ferroelectric liquid crystal 13 rotate in the opposite direction to the rotation direction of liquid crystal molecules 13a (the other side liquid crystal molecules) on the other side of the center line of the liquid crystal 13. Therefore, the negative side liquid crystal molecules collide with the other side liquid crystal molecules near the center line, which results that the energy loss in the liquid crystal 13 is largely increased compared with the case of the negative liquid crystal molecules rotating in the same direction as that of the other side liquid crystal molecules. Namely, each molecule 13a of the liquid crystal 13 does not rotate when the voltage applied on substrates 11, 12 is low, but just begins to rotate when a specified high voltage is applied. This means the liquid crystal 13 has a sharp threshold.
