Abstract: Zündvorrichtung mit einer Zündkerze und einer Zündspannungsquelle (50), wobei die Zündkerze mit einer Mittelelektrode (32) und einer Masseelektrode (42) versehen ist, die einander gegenüberliegend beabstandet sind, zumindest die Masseelektrode (42) aus einer Iridiumlegierung besteht, ein Funkenspalt (R1) zwischen der Mittelelektrode (32) und der Masseelektrode (42) weniger als 1,1 mm beträgt, Querschnitte (S1, S2) der Mittelelektrode (32) und der Masseelektrode (42) in einem kugelförmigen Bereich, in dem ein Abstand (R2) von einem Mittelpunkt (P) des Funkenspalts (R1) innerhalb von 0,6 mm hegt, kleiner oder gleich 0,95 mm2 sind und der Querschnitt (S2) der Masseelektrode (42) kleiner als der Querschnitt (S1) der Mittelelektrode (32) ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Zündspannungsquelle (50) dazu dient, an die Masseelektrode (42) eine erste Spannung anzulegen und an die Mittelelektrode (32) eine zweite Spannung anzulegen, die höher als die erste Spannung ist.

Abstract: A spark plug is composed of a main metal fitting having a cylindrical structure, an insulator disposed inside the cylindrical main metal fitting, a center electrode fitted in the insulator in a manner that a front end portion of the center electrode projects outward over one end of the insulator, and a grounding electrode mounted to the main metal fitting and having one end portion opposing to the front end portion of the center electrode through a discharge gap therebetween. The front end portion of the center electrode includes a conical portion having a tapered surface having a taper angle of less than 80°, and a columnar portion formed to a top end portion of the conical portion so as to have a diameter in a range of 0.4 mm to 0.8 mm.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark igniter of a one-cylinder two-point ignition type in which secure ignition and favorable combustion can be realized.
SOLUTION: For two-point ignition, two flame surfaces generate higher pressure than that around them, and mutual action of the two flames is generated to push each other. The two flames are thus more quickly grown toward peripheral parts of a combustion chamber than to a center part of the combustion chamber. Taking size of a line through center parts of two pairs of electrodes 11, 12, 21, and 22 for reference size, distance L1 between the center parts of the respective electrode pairs is set to be over 2 mm, and less than 1/2 of the reference size. Effect of two-point ignition is thus securely achieved, and more secure ignition and favorable combustion can be realized.

SOLUTION: A pair of diodes 108, 109 electrically connected to each other in the opposite directions are provided between a spark plug 1 having a pair of discharge gaps G1, G2 and an igniting power supply 2 for applying high voltage to the spark plug 1 with the generation of AC voltage. When the voltage of the igniting power supply 2 is positive, high voltage is applied to one discharge gap, and when the voltage of the igniting power supply 2 is negative, high voltage is applied to the other discharge gap. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure always excellent ignitability in a spark igniter for an internal combustion engine having an ignition coil and a spark plug. SOLUTION: This spark igniter has an intermitting means 4 for intermitting an electric current flowing to a primary winding 201 from a power source 3, a control means 6 for controlling time for making the electric current flow to the primary winding 201 from the power source 3 by controlling the intermitting means 4, and a discharge time measuring means 7 for outputting a discharge time signal to the control means 6 by measuring discharge time of the spark plug 1. The control means 6 controls the intermitting means 4 on the basis of the discharge time signal so that the discharge time of the spark plug 1 becomes a prescribed time or more. Thus, for example, even if an interelectrode gap changes by abrasion of an electrode of the spark plug 1, the always excellent ignitability can be secured.
