Abstract:
Compositions comprising a blend of an inorganic base, an organic base, a monofunctional organic nucleophile or a multifunctional organic nucleophile and a thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyetheramine can be formed into films and laminate structures by using conventional extrusion techniques. Containers and other molded parts can be fabricated from the films or laminate structures by using conventional fabricating techniques for thermoplastic polymers such as compression molding, injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, blow molding and solvent casting.
Abstract:
Hydroxy-functional polyester oligomers are prepared by contacting a hydroxy-functional aliphatic dicarboxylic acid or a mixture of dicarboxylic acids containing hydroxy-functional aliphatic diacids, with a diglycidyl ether or diglycidyl ester in the presence of an onium catalyst in an ether solvent under conditions suitable for forming the oligomer. The oligomers can be used as hot-melt adhesives, adhesive tackifiers, plasticizers, heat-curable adhesives and heat-curable coatings. Some of these materials are biodegradable and are therefore suitable for application to compostable end products.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyester comprises contacting a dicarboxylic acid or a mixture of dicarboxylic acids with a diepoxide in a given solvent in the presence of an end-capping agent and a catalyst under conditions sufficient to form the hydroxy-functionalized polyesters or polyethers.

Abstract:
Fibers comprising one or more thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyether s or polyesters, prepared by the reaction of a dinucleophilic monomer with a diglycidyl ether, a diglycidyl ester or epihalohydrin and, optionally a polymer which is not a hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester, including polyolefin, polyester, polyamide, polysaccharide, modified polysaccharide or naturally-occurring fiber or particulate filler; thermoplastic polyurethane, thermoplastic elastomer or glycol-modified copolyester.

Abstract:
A composition comprising at least one fiber and a binding amount of a hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester and a dispersion comprising a hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester.
Abstract:
A concrete article comprised of concrete having therein a reinforcing polyme r that has a surface comprised of a thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester. The concrete article is made by mixing concrete, wat er and a reinforcing polymer that has a surface comprised of a thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester and curing said concrete mixtu re forming the concrete article.
