Abstract:
A concrete article is prepared by mixing concrete, water and a reinforcing polymer comprised of a substantially random interpolymer of at least one alpha -olefin, with at least one vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer and curing said concrete mixture to form a concrete article having the reinforcing polymer therein, such that the reinforcing polymer has a surface comprised of the substantially random interpolymer in contact with the concrete.
Abstract:
A concrete article comprised of concrete having therein a reinforcing fiber, where at least about 50 percent of the reinforcing fibers are frayed only at an end or ends of the reinforcing fibers, may be made by mixing concrete, water and a reinforcing fiber for a sufficient time to fray the ends of at least 50 percent of the fibers and curing the mixture to form the concrete article. The fiber may be a reinforcing fiber comprised of at least two filaments bonded together and the filaments being comprised of a polymeric core and a polymeric sheath comprised of a fusing-fraying polymer, such that the reinforcing fiber, when mixed with inorganic particulates, frays predominately only at an end or ends of the fiber.
Abstract:
A concrete article comprised of concrete having therein a reinforcing polyme r that has a surface comprised of a thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester. The concrete article is made by mixing concrete, wat er and a reinforcing polymer that has a surface comprised of a thermoplastic hydroxy-functionalized polyether or polyester and curing said concrete mixtu re forming the concrete article.
Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium, comprising a substrate, a magnetic recording lamina and at least one sulfonamide wherein the at least one sulfonamide is present in an amount sufficient to provide desirable tribological properties. A process for lubricating magnetic recording media comprising applying at least one sulfonamide to a surface of the magnetic recording media or incorporating at least one sulfonamide into the lamina of the magnetic recording media.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method of preparing a 4,6-bisarylazoresorcinol comprising reacting an aryldiazonium salt and resorcinol in the presence of a base and a reaction medium containing water and a water-miscible solvent at a temperature in the range of -5.degree.C to -60.degree.C. The present invention is also a method of preparing a 2-substituted 4,6-bisarylazoresorcinol comprising reacting an aryldiazonium salt with a 2-substituted resorcinol. The 4,6-bisarylazoresorcinol or 2-substituted 4,6-bisarylazoresorcinol can then be hydrogenated to a 4,6-diaminoresorcinol, which is a precursor to polybisbenzoxazoles (PBOs), polymers which are useful as insulators, solar arrays, and tear-resistant gloves.
Abstract:
A new lubricant comprises at least one compound having a perfluorocyclobutane group, preferably a perfluorovinyl aryl ether. The lubricant is conveniently applied from solvents which are not chlorofluorocarbons and is effective at high temperatures for example, in engines and for magnetic media, either internally or topically.
Abstract:
2097293 9211631 PCTABS00014 A magnetic recording media containing a lubricant which is a cyclic phosphazene completely substituted with fluorinated phenoxy substituents and m-perfluoroalkylphenoxy substituents, in ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:5 is disclosed. The recording media and lubricant are particularly useful for advanced, high density magnetic recording media.
