Abstract:
This invention relates to polycarbonate compositions comprising: (A) at least one polycarbonate comprising repeating units derived from a dihydroxyaromatic compound or a dihydroxyaiiphatic compound of the formula HO-Y-OH; and (B) at least one salt prepared from the reaction of one or more acidic phosphorus-containing compounds and one or more hindered amine light stabilizers. The polycarbonate compositions exhibit improved hydrolytic stability.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for the preparation of an addition salt of at least one hindered amine light stabilizer and at least one acidic phosphorus containing compound. The process comprises the step of combining at least one hindered amine light stabilizer and an acidic phosphorus containing compound so that an addition salt is formed as an isolatable solid.
Abstract:
Disclosed are polymer blends comprising a mixture of (A) at least one polyester prepared by the reaction of at least one diol with at least one dicarboxylic acid or dialkyl ester thereof in the presence of a metallic catalyst; (B) at least one phosphite ester compound; and (C) at least one hindered amine light stabilizer. The polymer blends exhibit improved color, especially when used as a component of a polyester/polycarbonate blend.
Abstract:
Polyesters or copolyesters modified with sulfonate containing comonomers have been shown to improve flammability characteristics of polyesters and copolyesters. Incorporation of sulfonate containing monomers such as 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid significantly decreases the heat release capacity of copolyesters. These comonomers also increase the formation of char as measured by thermogravimetric analysis. The decrease in the heat release capacity and increase in char formation indicates that these compositions may have reduced flammability and thus are useful for producing products have reduced flammability. In particular, it has also been demonstrated that incorporation of as little as 0.1 mole % 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid to a polyester or copolyester significantly increases the char formation independent of composition.

Disclosed are polymer compositions comprising: (A) at least one polyester prepared by the reaction of at least one diol with at least one dicarboxylic acid or dialkyl ester thereof in the presence of a metallic catalyst; and (B) at least one salt prepared from the reaction of one or more acidic phosphorus-containing compounds and one or more basic organic compounds which contain nitrogen. The polyester compositions exhibit improved color, especially when used as a component of a polyester/polycarbonate blend. Also disclosed are polymer compositions comprising a polycarbonate in combination with components (A) and (B).
Abstract:
Disclosed are chemically-mixed, titanium-zinc oxide catalysts and the use of the catalysts in the manufacture of methanol and dimethyl ether wherein synthesis gas is contacted at elevated temperatures and pressures with the catalyst.
Abstract:
Disclosed are stabilized aliphatic polyester compositions comprising an aliphatic polyester, a HALS, and a tris -aryl-S-triazine UV absorber that show low embrittlement, haze formation, and discoloration during weathering. Also disclosed are aliphatic polyester compositions comprising aliphatic polyester, a hindered amine light stabilizer, a triazine UV absorber, and a phosphite that exhibit low color prior to weathering but retain good clarity, color, and excellent impact strength after exposure to weathering conditions. The aliphatic polyester compositions may be used prepare shaped articles such as, for example, films, sheets, bottles, tubes, profiles, fibers and molded articles.
Abstract:
This invention relates to new polyethylene compositions having improved extrusion characteristics and processes of reducing die lines, die build-up, and vapor line presence, thereby extending extrusion run times.
