Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate the damping effect of a guiding tool and to make a first and second barrel reach welding rolls at about objective speed by driving at least one roll at the time of starting a welding machine or at the time of beginning to feed a hollow cylindrical body. SOLUTION: The peripheral surface shape of rolls 3, 4,... are fitted to an object to be welded, and about circular passage 2 is formed. The barrel of a container is carried in the direction of an A arrow passing through the passage 2 and guided with rolls, and dimension is corrected. After the first barrel or second barrel depending on the situation passes through a guiding tool 1, rolls reach the objective speed by the friction with the barrel, the interval with the succeeding barrel becomes normal, and an excessive slip is not generated. Rolls are driven by only temporarily acting a compressed air jet.

Abstract: The method concerns welding of hollow cylindrical bodies (in particular, tins) according to which the bodies, before reaching the welding position, run through a guide tool (1) provided with several rolls. At least one of the rolls (3, 4, 5, 8) is a driven roll. Also claimed is an apparatus for implementation of the proposed method.

Abstract: A procedure is described for resistance welding with, in particular, an alternating welding current pulsating in periodic half waves which is generated from an alternating primary voltage (Up) of a welding transformer (16) and is regulated by pulse duration modulation of this alternating primary voltage. The alternating primary voltage (Up) is n-times chopped in each half wave during the pulse duration modulation, where n > 1. In each half wave, the welding current is regulated by the fact that n nominal/actual-value comparisons of the welding current are carried and the duty ratio during the pulse duration modulation is acted upon a corresponding n-times. To regulate the welding current, a regulator (18) is provided which has a memory which contains nominal current values corresponding to the welding current shape for each chopping interval for comparison with each actual current value determined per chopping interval. In this manner, it is not only possible to achieve very short regulating times because the welding current can be corrected several times within each of its halfwaves, but the welding current shape is also freely selectable because a large number of nominal values can be kept ready in the memory for each half wave of the welding current. For electrical resistance welding, a current variation which deviates from the sinusoidal shape is selected in each half wave of the welding current. As a result, energy output to the material to be welded can be accurately metered which makes it possible to weld previously problematic materials such as very thin and/or weakly tinned tin-plate or black-plate, chrome-plated sheet metal and so forth with very good welding quality and high throughput.

Abstract: In a resistance welding process, a primary a.c. voltage is produced by a static frequency converter (14) with an intermediate DC circuit (14c) and chopper (14b) and is supplied to a welding transformer (16). A controller (18) is connected to the chopper. For control of welding current by modulation of the pulse duration of the primary a.c. voltage. A memory stores the set-point welding current value for comparison with the actual value in each chopper interval. ADVANTAGE - Reduced control intervals; adaptable to materials to be welded.
