Abstract: Binder composition contains a polyurethane with a 2-(aminoacylamido)-alkanesulfonic acid unit (I) or its salt and magnetic or magnetizable pigment(s). Binder composition contains a polyurethane with a 2-(aminoacylamido)-alkanesulfonic acid unit of formula (I) or its salt and magnetic or magnetizable pigment(s): [Image] R1>hydrogen (H) or a 1-20 carbon (C) linear or branched, (un)saturated aliphatic, 4-20 C (un)saturated, (un)substituted cycloaliphatic, or 6-40 C (un)substituted aromatic hydrocarbyl group; R2>a 1-20 C linear or branched (un)saturated aliphatic or 4-20 C cycloaliphatic or 6-18 C (un)substituted aromatic hydrocarbyl group; X1>, X2>an (un)substituted group with not less than 2 C atoms, at least one of which is attached to the polyurethane by reaction with a hydroxyl (OH), amino (NH2), substituted amino NHR3>) or thiol (SH) group; R3>a 1-44 C linear or branched, (un)saturated alkyl group, optionally with aromatic substituent(s) . Independent claims are also included for (a) the production of the binder composition by mixing the polyurethane binder with magnetic or magnetizable pigment(s); and (b) magnetic recording media containing this composition.
