Abstract: A pipette for use with a pipette tip or syringe including a piston positioned within a cylinder comprises a pipette housing extending between an upper end and a lower end and containing a lifting rod. An operating element is configured to protrude outwardly from the pipette housing and be displaced relative to the pipette housing. A gear mechanism is arranged in the pipette housing and comprises a drive configured to be driven by the operating element, and an output configured to drive the lifting rod. The output comprises a first rod including at least one tooth row, a second rod fixedly connected to the lifting rod, and two pinions each comprising a diameter and configured to be rotationally fixed to a common shaft. One of the two pinions meshes with the at least one tooth row and the second of the two pinions meshes with teeth of the second rod.
