    Abstract: A method of operating a user equipment, UE, intended to use a service in a wireless communication system having several base stations. The location of the UE is monitored, by the UE, for example with a GPS system or identification of the cell of the corresponding base station. If a problem, such as loss of coverage or call, is imminent or has occurred, information about the location is stored in a memory of the UE. After successful recovery from the problem, the alternative base station used is also stored in the memory. Next time the same location and problem is encountered, the UE uses the previous information for alleviating the problem or perform as fast recovery as possible. In this way, the UE can be operated with less frequent base station searches thereby saving battery, while at the same time sufficient coverage may be obtained.

    Abstract: Embodiments include methods, performed by a network node in a wireless network, for managing energy consumption of user equipment (UEs) served by the network node. Such methods include transmitting, to a UE, a configuration including one or more time-domain resource allocations (TDRAs). The TDRAs include one or more first scheduling offsets and one or more second scheduling offsets between a scheduling message and a signal or channel scheduled via the scheduling message. A minimum value of the second scheduling offsets is greater than a minimum value of the first scheduling offsets. Such methods also include transmitting, to the UE, an indication of whether the UE should use the first scheduling offsets or the second scheduling offsets, and a first scheduling message that schedules a first signal or channel for the UE according to the indication. Embodiments also include complementary methods perform by UEs, as well as network nodes and UEs.

    Abstract: According to some embodiments, a method for use in a user equipment (UE) comprises receiving a plurality of weights for assigning paging physical resource blocks (PRBs) to a plurality of UEs. Each weight is associated with a respective paging PRB. The method further comprises determining a paging PRB for the UE using at least one weight of the plurality of weights, and receiving paging on the determined paging PRB. In particular embodiments, determining the paging PRB for the UE comprises assigning the UE to an artificial paging PRB of a set of artificial paging PRBs, and mapping the artificial paging PRB to an actual paging PRB of a set of actual paging PRBs using at least one weight of the plurality of weights. The set of actual paging PRBs includes a smaller number of paging PRBs than the set of artificial paging PRBs.

Determining that the second set of predefined criteria have been satisfied includes making a plurality of signal quality measurements of a signal received from a serving cell during power saving state; determining which of the plurality of signal quality measurements represents a best one of the signal quality measurements; determining a threshold value as a function of the best one of the signal quality measurements; and determining that the second set of predefined criteria have been satisfied if a current signal quality measurement satisfies a predefined relationship with respect to the threshold value.
