Abstract: A spunbonded elastic nonwoven fabric comprises a web of bonded thermoplastic filaments of a thermoplastic elastomer. The spunbonded fabrics of the invention are prepared in a slot draw spunbonding process operated at a rate of less than about 2000 meters per minute. The elastic fabric is used in absorbent products, such as disposable diapers, adult incontinence pads, sanitary napkins and the like, and as coverstock for absorbent personal care products.

Abstract: A nonwoven filamentary web having high loft is produced by extruding a molten thermoplastic polymer or polymer blend through a spinneret to form continuous filaments while maintaining extrusion conditions which induce melt-fracture of the extrudate; attenuating the thus extruded melt-fractured filaments to obtain filamentary material having a crimped structure; and depositing the melt-fractured filamentary material on a collection surface and forming a web therefrom.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing a continuous filament nonwoven fabric under conditions which modify the surface characteristics of the filament and the fabric formed by the process. A blend of thermoplastic polymers, wherein at least one is a polyolefin polymer and containing a majority polymer component of low MFR, is extruded through a heated die under conditions which are responsible for controlled oxidation of the filament surface of at least one component so that they are capable of efficient bonding. During spinning, the continuous filaments display good drawability and good filament distribution on the collection surface. Preferably, the filaments are drawn to a fine denier (i.e., 5 or less). The corresponding continuous filament fabric possesses desirable strength properties, as a result of high interfilamentary bond strength.

Abstract: The invention provides composite elastic nonwoven fabrics and the process of making them. The elastic nonwoven composite fabrics of the invention are formed from the combination of a plurality of cooperative elastic layers including an elastomeric meltblown web and an elastomeric spunbonded web. The elastomeric layers are joined together in a unitary elastic fabric structure to provide a composite having a desirable combination of elastic and barrier properties.

Abstract: The present invention provides composite nonwoven fabric laminates and processes for producing such. The fabric (10) is comprised of a web (11) of thermoplastic filaments laminated to at least one other web. Preferably, the filaments are spunbonded continuous polyolefin filaments which have an oxidatively degraded outer sheath portion to promote better interfilamentary bonding and improved fabric laminate strength. In a preferred embodiment, two outer nonwoven webs (11, 13) comprise oxidatively degraded spunbonded filaments and are positioned around and laminated to a web (12) of meltblown microfibers thus forming an spunbond/meltblown/spunbond fabric. Additionally, a stretch compatible fabric may be formed in which a web of oxidatively degraded filaments is laminated to an elastic web. The fabrics of the invention may be advantageously used in numerous applications such as medical garments and disposable absorbent products.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a composite nonwoven fabric (10) comprising first and second nonwoven webs (11, 13) of spunbonded substantially continuous thermoplastic filaments, and a nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web (12) of thermoplastic meltblown microfibers sandwiched between the first and second nonwoven webs. The filaments of the nonwoven spunbond webs are formed of continuous multiconstituent filaments which include a lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer component and one or more higher melting gamma radiation stable polymer constituents, wherein a substantial portion of the surfaces of the multiconstituent filaments consists of the lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene constituent. The nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web is formed from a gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer. The webs are bonded together to form the composite nonwoven fabric by discrete point bonds in which the polyethylene constituent of said multiconstituent filaments and the polyethylene of said third nonwoven web are fused together.

Abstract: L'invention se rapporte à des étoffes élastiques qui sont essentiellement non extensibles dans le sens machine et qui ont des propriétés élastiques marquées dans le sens travers. Ces étoffes stables au traitement contiennent un filet et une couche de fibres qui sont liés ensemble. Le filet se compose de plusieurs torons continus dans le sens machine et de plusieurs torons dans le sens travers. Les torons dans le sens machine sont essentiellement non extensibles et les torons dans le sens travers sont essentiellement élastiques. De telles étoffes peuvent être fabriquées et traitées plus facilement que les étoffes qui sont élastiques à la fois dans le sens machine et dans le sens travers.
