    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drain valve used in co-operation with a fuel filter having a water separating function. SOLUTION: This drain valve 20 includes a control lever 21 loaded by a spring co-operating with a flow control piston 22 for rotating the piston from a normally-closed state of the drain valve to an opened state of the drain valve. In the normally-closed state, the piston 22 is rotated to allow a first spherical part 32 to close the flow communication between a drainage channel and a water channel. Simultaneously, a second spherical part 33 closes the flow communication between an airflow channel 36 and a ventilation channel 42. In the opened state, the drainage channel 41 and the water channel 35 are communicated, and the airflow channel 36 and the ventilation channel 42 are communicated to discharge the water from the fuel filter, and to introduce the air into the fuel filter.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid filter constituted so as to facilitate the attachment and detachment of a filter assembly, and an apparatus having the fluid filter mounted therein. SOLUTION: The fluid filter has a filter element (27) for filtering a fluid and a nut plate (22) is locked with a filter head by a screw. An inside seal retainer is positioned between the nut plate (22) and the filter element (27) to form a hollow interior. The inside seal retainer has at least one strong hollow web and this web forms a space for transmitting the fluid to the gap between the nut plate (22) and the filter element (27). An inside deformation direction seal is attached to the inside seal retainer and the filter element (27) is hermetically sealed by the filter head.

The flow-control piston (22) also includes a second part-spherical portion (33) defining an air flow passageway (36) therethrough leading from the drain opening (43). In the normally-closed condition, the flow-control piston (22) is turned such that the first part-spherical portion (32) closes the flow communication between the water drain passageway (35) and the water flow path. Concurrently, the second part-spherical portion (33) closes the flow communication between the air flow passageway (36) and the air flow path. In the opened condition, there is flow communication between the water drain passageway (35) and the water flow path and between the air flow passageway (36) and the air flow path for draining water from the fuel filter and providing vent air into the fuel filter.

    Abstract: A fuel filter constructed and arranged with a heater and designed for fuel-water separation includes a unitary housing (casting) which has an open top to be closed by a threaded lid and a closed base which in combination with a surrounding sidewall defines an interior space. A fuel filter cartridge including a filter element, centertube, and top and bottom endplates is disposed in the interior space such that there is a water collection space between the bottom endplate and the closed base of the housing. The lid includes a plurality of snap-fit fingers arranged in an annular array for press-on attachment to the top endplate. A heater ring is provided within the housing and is positioned around the filter cartridge. The heater ring provides both a flow path for entering fuel and a plurality of positive-temperature-coefficient stones which assist in the heating of the fuel. Control of the heater ring is provided by a heater connector and thermostat combination. The thermostat senses the temperature of the housing near the heater ring and is designed to provide an open circuit when the designed temperature is exceeded. A drain valve is mounted to the housing in flow communication with the water collection space and is operated by a manual lever which controls the movement of a spring-biased plunger. A water-in-fuel sensor is mounted to the housing and extends into the water collection space for deriving conductivity readings.
