    Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for doubling the frequency of laser radiation. It is an object of the invention to indicate a device for doubling the frequency of the radiation of a diode laser, which radiation is not rotationally symmetrical, with different radiation quality parameters in the vertical and lateral directions, the device having an optimum conversion efficiency or a higher conversion efficiency than the devices of the prior art. The inventive device has a laser, the irradiation of which, emitted perpendicularly to the direction of the light emitted, has a vertical divergence in a vertical direction (y) and an associated vertical radiation quality parameter (I) and a lateral divergence in the lateral direction (x) perpendicular thereto and an associated lateral radiation quality parameter (II), a nonlinear medium (1) with a quadratic nonlinear susceptibility and a focusing optical system, which focuses the laser beam in the nonlinear medium, wherein the focusing optical system is constructed in such a manner, that the focusing convergence corresponds to the radiation of the laser, focused into the medium (1), is scaled down in the vertical direction (y) of a focusing convergence, optimum for a strictly coherent radiation, by a factor, which results from the radiation quality parameter (I) along the vertical direction (y), in that this parameter is diminished by 1, then multiplied with a vertical add-on factor between 0.2 and 5 and, after that, increased by 1, and that the focusing convergence corresponds to the radiation of the laser, focused into the median (1) in a lateral direction (x) of a focusing convergence, optimum for a strictly coherent radiation, is diminished by a factor, which arises along the lateral direction (x) from the radiation quality parameter (II), in that this parameter is diminished by 1, then multiplied with a lateral add-on between 0.2 and 0.5 and, after that, increased by 1, the length of the nonlinear medium remain
