    Abstract: A tool (10) is introduced and centrally positioned inside an end part (5) of a heat exchanger tube using a carrier (6) capable of being displaced parallel to the inlet face (3a) of the tube plate (3) and a guiding and centring device (8) mounted on the carrier (6). This device (8) has a certain freedom of movement within a plane parallel to the inlet face (3a) of the tube plate (3) and includes a guide sleeve (18, 19) having a guide channel for the tool (10) and a conical centring assembly (30) mounted axially to the interior of the sleeve. The carrier is positioned so that the axis of the guide sleeve (18) is aligned with the axis of the end of the tube (5). The conical centring assembly (30) is engaged in the end part (5) of the tube in a 1st position w.r.t. the sleeve (18) by axial movement of the device (8). The end of the sleeve (18) is brought into contact with the inlet face (3a) of the tube plate (3) by axial movement of the device (8) so that the sleeve is positioned in an exact axial extension of the axis (11) of the tube end (5). A axial force is exerted on the device (8) to apply the end of the sleeve (18) against the inlet face (3a) of the tube plate (3) with a determined pressure. The centring assembly is axially displaced to a retracted position leaving the guide channel free inside the sleeve (18). The tube is introduced through the guide channel of the sleeve (18). Also claimed is a device for carrying out the procedure above.

    Abstract: The replacement is carried out from an operating region located above the convex face (1a) of the head. The adaptor to be replaced is machined after removing its control mechanism (13) and a heat sleeve (4), by introducing suitable tooling (14) via the upper end of the adaptor (3') to be replaced. In succession, the lower part of the adaptor and a part of the weld of this adaptor are machined, a narrow chamfer is machined in the weld of the adaptor to be replaced, the remaining part of the adaptor (3') to be replaced is rebored inside the head (1), the adaptor is extracted, a replacement adaptor is fitted by cold binding (shrinking) and the replacement adaptor is welded.
