    Abstract: A tool for exchanging & transporting sample irradiation capsules(8) between a nuclear reactor vessel & swimming pool and between positions along the core heat shield includes an operating rod(30) movable relative to a vertical tube(4) and with a top handle(31) and lower end cam(37) to operate tongs(52,53) pivotable on the lower end of the tube. The tube forms the piston rod of a double-acting hydraulic jack which has a clamp mounted on its cylinder for pivoting about horizontal axes between an inoperative position & a position cooperating with a fixed part of the reactor. A 2nd clamp on the rod moves the clamp. The jack allows the tube to exert a downward thrust on a capsule.
