    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high resolution screen free from smears speedily without providing any shutter by providing an electronic image pickup tube, which is provided with pixels with a specific dimension and performs scanning and focusing by means of electron beams for an optically formed image on a photosensitive target consisting of monocrystal semiconductor material so as to output an electric signal, a control means for the electronic image pickup tube, and a signal storing means. SOLUTION: In a photosensitive target 6 in a monocrystal semiconductor with a thickness of 300mμ or more, a matrix of pixels, which occupy a surface area of less than 10μm and are provided with small capacitance, is formed, and high frame speed and resolution are provided. An image of a scene 12 is formed on the target 6 by means of optical means 10, and its scanning and focusing are carried out with electron beams 16 from an electron gun 14 according to electrostatic scanning controlled by means of a first electronic processing means 20 and by means of focusing means 18, and then, an electric signal S is outputted. A signal S from an electron image pickup tube 4 is stored in controlling-storing means 22 controlling the processing means 20, and an image is displayed by means of a display means 26 after processing by means of a second electronic processing means 24 is carried out.

    Abstract: The camera comprises an electron tube with a photosensitive target (6) made of single-crystalline semiconducting material e.g. silicon, the thickness of which is not less than 300Ám, optical means (10) for forming the image of a scene on the target, an electron gun (14) to supply an electron beam to read the target, and electrostatic scanning and focusing means (18) designed to focus and scan the electron beam across the target, the target then outputting a signal representative of this image, means (20) for controlling the electron gun and the scanning and focusing means, and means (22) of receiving and storing the signals output by the target. Applications to the analysis of very fast movements, to object recognition, to the study of chemical and biological reactions and to the automatic control of production lines are envisaged.
