Abstract:
A thermoplastic resin composition comprises units represented by the amide formula (I) and the ester formula (II) wherein said amide units are present as a physical mixture in said resin or as a polymer with the repeating ester units to impart an enhanced crystallization rate as compared to said resin without said amide units of formula (I), said amide units being present in an effective amount to decrease the difference between the temperature of melting and the temperature of crystallization of said resin to an amount less than 5 mole percent of amide units of formula (I) based on the moles of ester units of formula (II).
Abstract:
The invention deals with a crate for containers with side walls and a bottom provided in its interior with separating walls creating a plurality of separated spaces for holding a containers, the crate being made out of a thermoplastic material, the thermoplastic material being a transparent or translucent material comprising a blend of at least one thermoplastic aromatic polycarbonate resin and at least one thermoplastic polyester resin comprising units derivable from a cycloaliphatic diol and a cycloaliphatic or a aromatic diacid.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a transparent/translucent molding composition and process for making prepared from an impact modifier and a resin blend of polycarbonate and a cycloaliphatic polyester having a matching index of refraction.
Abstract:
Translucent polycarbonate compositions include an aromatic polycarbonate, a cycloaliphatic polyester, and a polyolefin. The compositions have excellent optical characteristics and superior physical properties, particularly low-temperature impact strength, compared to translucent polycarbonate-polyester blends requiring inorganic fibers.
Abstract:
A transparent/translucent flame retardant composition comprises a uniform blend of a miscible resin blend of a polycarbonate resin and a cycloaliphatic polyester resin wherein the composition has at least a 80 % pass rate in 10 test specimen in the Norme Française NF-P-92-505 flammability test of l'Association Française de Normalisation using test specimens with weight between about 1.0 to about 6.0 kilograms per square meter.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simpler and more economically obtain ester amides and polyesteramides through a fewer processes without requiring the complicated purification of an intermediate by the transesterification of a dialkyl terephthalate. SOLUTION: This method is to conduct the transesterification of (A) a dialkyl terephthalate into (B) an alkyl aryl terephthalate so as to making the component B exist in the reaction product, to catalytically react the reaction product with an alkylene diamine so as to form a bis-ester amide by reacting at least a portion of the component B with the above alkyl alkylene or arylene diamine and to polymerize the bis-ester amide with a diol to form a polyesteramide. The transesterification is preferably carried out by reacting the component A with a suitable phenoxy derivative such as a diphenyl terephthalate.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover bis-phenol A from compositions containing reaction residue of a dihydric phenol, particularly bis-phenol A units. SOLUTION: A bis-phenol A-containing polymer is roughly crushed and the crushed granules are treated with an organic swelling solvent which is compatible to water such as an alcohol or other solvent and can be readily distilled off from the aqueous solution for a time enough to swell the crushed granules. Then, the swollen crushed granules are brought into contact with an aqueous ammonia which can selectively cleave the ester bonds of the bis-phenol A residual units at a temperature of >=25 deg.C to form the liquid phase and the solid phase. The liquid phase is separated from the solid phase, ammonia and the organic swelling solvent are distilled out of the liquid phase to obtain an aqueous solution containing dissolved urea, partially precipitated bis-phenol A. A sufficient amount of water is added to the solution to precipitate bis-phenol A to form the liquid phase the solid phase. Finally, the bis phenol A of the solid phase is recovered and dried.

Abstract:
In a process for making a polyesteramide composition, an alkyl aryl terephthalate ester is formed from a dialkyl terephthalate by transesterification and then reacted with an alkyl diamine to form a bis-ester amide wherein the reaction product containing the bis-ester amide may be directly contacted with an alkyl diamine without the need for purification steps.
