    Abstract: A double annular combustor having concentrically disposed inner and outer annular combustors is provided with inner and outer domes (22,21). A one-piece cowl (40) is provided upstream of the inner and outer domes in order to form a high pressure region (45). The one-piece cowl has an inner annular portion (41), an outer annular portion (42), and a radial middle portion (43) connecting the inner and outer annular portions. The inner and outer annular portions include scalloped areas (44) therein to facilitate insertion and removal of fuel tubes and nozzles. The cowl middle portion includes a shield (46) to isolate the scalloped areas and the fuel tube from the high pressure region, thereby preventing leakage of air flow and consequential pressure loss from the high pressure region.

    Abstract: A mapping device (13) maps each burner mode at various bleed settings to generate control schedules (80) for a combustion controller (11) that ensure combustion dynamic (acoustic) pressures, and emissions limits and ring flame temperatures are within operational limits. In general, a method of combustor mapping involves adjusting the bulk ring flame temperature to meet emissions and acoustic requirements. The dome ring flame temperature is then adjusted to determine maximum and minimum ring flame temperature boundary limits. At both the maximum and minimum ring flame temperatures, the emissions levels and acoustic pressures are checked to see that they are within specification limits. If they are not, the bulk ring flame temperature is adjusted, and the entire process is repeated for that bleed setting and burner mode. If the emissions levels and acoustic pressures are within specification limits, then the power is increased to a different mode and bleed setting combination, and the process is again repeated. During each of these steps, mapping data are recorded.
