Abstract: A fairing assembly (30) is provided which is located between a frame hub (32) and an engine casing (31). The assembly provides for use of a metallic structure in combination with a light weight low alpha material in order to improve engine efficiency and performance. Relative growth between the dissimilar materials is compensated for by a flexible bracket (90) which provides biasing force on one of the assembly components in a cold engine condition as well as allowing for growth at the high temperature operating conditions of the engine.

The first and the second sensor information are read and the clearance sensor is matched with a respective plurality of calibration data by an electronic interface (92) based on the first and the second sensor information.

The processing system (12) may include techniques for obtaining real-time clearance estimates and techniques for obtaining averaged clearance estimates. Aspects of the processing system (12) may also include a method of switching between real-time clearance estimates and averaged clearance estimates depending on the operating conditions of the rotating machine (10). Other aspects of the processing system (12) include the use of two digital signal processors (32, 40): a first digital signal processor (32) configured to receive signals (34) from a clearance sensor (14, 16, 18) and perform a first set of high speed processing tasks, and a second digital signal processor (40) configured to receive signals (34) from the first digital signal processor (32) and perform a second set of lower speed processing tasks.

Abstract: A double annular combustor having concentrically disposed inner and outer annular combustors is provided with inner and outer domes. A one-piece cowl is provided upstream of the inner and outer domes in order to form a high pressure region. The one-piece cowl has an inner annular portion, an outer annular portion, and a radial middle portion connecting the inner and outer annular portions. The inner and outer annular portions include scalloped areas therein to facilitate insertion and removal of fuel tubes and nozzles. The cowl middle portion includes a shield to isolate the scalloped areas and the fuel tube from the high pressure regions thereby preventing leakage of air flow and consequential pressure loss from the high pressure region.
