Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement further miniaturization by abutting the inside wall surface at the lower end of the side tube of a sealed container on an edge surface of a stem plate and then welding the side tube to the stem plate. SOLUTION: When a stem plate 14 is airtightly welded to a side tube, the stem plate 4 is inserted from an open end 2B of the side tube, an inside wall surface 2c at the lower end 2a of the side tube is abutted on an edge surface 4b of the stem plate and the lower surface of the stem plate 11 is arranged flush with the lower end surface of the side tube 2 and thus, the lower end surface of the side tube is prevented from projecting from the stem plate 4. Thereby, there is no projection like a flange at the lower end of a photomultiplier tube 1. Laser welding is performed to the joined part in this condition. As a result of the elimination of the projection at the lower end of the photomultiplier tube 1, the outside dimension of the photomultiplier tube 1 can be reduced, a dead space can be eliminated as much as possible even if the multiple photomultiplier tubes 1 are used by arranging them side by side. and their side tubes can tightly be fitted together. That is. the photomultiplier tube 1 can be miniaturized and arranged in high density.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly reduce the possibilities that multiplication rates are varied and that fine-mesh dynodes are broken during manufacture. SOLUTION: This photomultiplier tube has a caulked part 205 formed at a predetermined position on a hollow pipe 2 which has a T-shaped edge 202 and which passes through a dynode part 500 including fine-mesh dynodes, thereby specifying the layered structure of a photomultiplier part by means of the edge 202 and the caulked part 205. The photomultiplier tube whose manufacturing errors are reduced by accurately controlling the intervals between the fine- mesh dynodes can thus be obtained. Also, the hollow pipe is a double structure of an inside pipe 200 made of a conducting material and an outside pipe 201 made of an insulating material, the inside pipe 200 constituting a part of a wiring structure electrically connecting a photocathode to a stem pin.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retard the generation of a pre-pulse by forming a second step dynode facing a first step dynode with a material having such a property that secondary electrode irradiating ratio to applied voltage is almost saturated in an electron multiplier part of a photomultiplier. SOLUTION: A photomultiplier receives incident light with a photo-electric cathode 5 to irradiate a photo-electron, and sequentially cascade-multiplies irradiated photo-electron with a plurality of dynodes Dy in an electron-multiplier part 6. In the electron-multiplier part 6, a second step dynode Dy2 in which a photo-electron irradiated from a first step dynode Dy1 is formed with a material having such a property that secondary electron irradiating ratio to applied voltage is almost saturated. This material is either one of Al, Cu, Be, Ni, Fe, Mo, W, and stainless steel. The photomultiplier capable of retarding the generation of prepulse is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance a reduction in electron orbit deflection by providing a deflection correcting anode electrode between a screen electrode and an anode electrode. CONSTITUTION:The electrons generated from the photoelectric surface of an input surface 2 according to the input of a subject image signal are focused and accelerated by focusing electrodes 41-43 and an anode electrode 51, and taken out from a screen electrode 3. A deflection correcting anode electrode 52 having nearly the same inclined surface as an electron orbit surface to which a potential lower than that to the electrode 51 is added is also provided between the electrodes 51 and 3. According to this simple constitution, an electron orbit deflection which is exponentially increased as it is closer to the periphery can be remarkably suppressed, and the whole deflection is reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to insert the leg of an electrode so as to hold the electrode securely by providing holding holes to position a specific electrode to a specific position, and a leading hole to guide the leg of the electrode up to the position of the holding holes, to a hole. CONSTITUTION:A leading hole 34 to guide the leg 40 of an electrode up to the position of holding holes 35 and 36 is provided to a hole. Even though the leg 40 is at the position slipped from the slit-form of holding holes 35 and 36 at first, the tip of the leg 40 is slipped in the direction shown as F, and guided to the position of the slit-form of holding holes 35 and 36 by pushing the leg 40 to the hole, as far as the tip of the leg 40 is positioned in the leading hole 34. And, by pushing in the leg 40 further, the leg 40 can be inserted to the holding holes 35 and 36 and held stably. In this case, tapers 38 arranged around the hole make the slipping of the electrode tub smooth, and the leg 40 of the electrode can be guided to the position of the holding holes 35 and 36 easily.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an electron multiplier and a photo-electron multiplier which are highly efficient by correcting the orbits of secondary electrons emitted from dynodes in the first stage, enhancing a carry-over factor over to dynodes in the second stage, and thereby letting light decrease an electron running time difference to a great extent. CONSTITUTION:Potential between a net shaped electrode 61 in the first stage and a dynode 71, is made to be different roughly by -3V through -9V, an electron orbit t1 at the upper end 91 of an electrode element 9 is corrected, thereby disabling electron emission from the electrode 61 in the first stage. This therefore permits an electron running time difference T from an electron orbit t2 at the lower end 92 and an electron carry-over factor eta over to a dynode 72 in the second stage to be enhanced. This situation results in characteristics as shown by the figure wherein, for example, no change is made in the time difference T as far as the potential difference VC remains to be -0 to -2V, the time difference is gradually decreased when the potential difference is increased beyond -2V, it will be lowest when the potential difference is equal to -5V, and it will be hardly changed when the potential difference is equal to or more than -5V. On the other hand, a carry-over factor eta is moderately increased until the potential difference goes roughly up to -5V, and starts to be gradually decreased after the potential difference goes beyond said value. Namely, the most excellent characteristics are thereby exhibited when the potential difference VC is roughly equal to -5V.
