SOLUTION: This hollow cathode lamp provided with a hollow negative electrode 14 facing to a light emitting window 3 and a positive electrode 8 in a bulb 4 having the light emitting window 3 includes a cylindrical hood 20 of an approximately cylindrical shape having one open end 20a connected with the hollow negative electrode 14, other open end 20b facing to the light emitting window 3, and a hole 22 formed on a peripheral side surface of the cylindrical hood 20, and an electron supply source 24 arranged in a position facing to the hole 22. Discharge using thermions is performed between the electron supply source 24 and the positive electrode 8.

SOLUTION: A hollow cathode lamp has a hollow cathode 14 having a through hole 14h, a cylindrical anode 8 forming an almost cylindrical shape, an electron supply source 24 for generating discharge using a thermoelectron between the hollow cathode and the cylindrical anode 8 in the through hole 14h of the hollow cathode and a bulb 4 housing inside the hollow cathode 14, the cylindrical anode 8 and the electron supply source 24 and having a light emitting window 3, the cylindrical anode 8 is arranged so that one opening end 8d is opposed to one end 14u of the hollow cathode 14 and the other opening end 8u is opposite to the light emitting window 3 between one end 14u of the hollow cathode 14 and the light emitting window 3, and the electron supply source 24 is arranged on the other end 14d side of the hollow cathode 14.
