Abstract: An electron multiplier according to this invention comprises dynodes DY1 SIMILAR DY16 arranged in multi-stages along a direction of incidence of an energy beam for, upon incidence of the energy beam, gradually multiplying secondary electrons to emit the same, a collection electrode A for receiving electrons emitted from that of the dynodes on a last stage, and resistors R1 SIMILAR R16 inserted between the respective dynodes and their adjacent ones, the dynodes, the collecting electrode, and the resistors being mounted between two support plates 10a, 10b disposed in parallelism with each other, the resistors being arranged in two rows which sandwich the dynodes.

Abstract: The electron multiplying device according to this invention comprises an electron multiplying unit (E) including dynodes arranged in a plurality of stages. The electron multiplying unit has an incidence opening (21) for an energy beam to be multiplied to enter through, and has the proximal end secured to a base (13). There is provided a casing (16) for housing the electron multiplying unit. The forward edge of the casing is secured to the base (13), and a space defined by the base and the casing houses the electron multiplying unit. The casing has an entrance window (26) formed at a position opposed to the incidence opening (21). Energy beams enter the electron multiplying unit through the entrance window (26), but the electron multiplying unit itself is housed in the casing to be protected from surrounding air flow and unnecessary energy beams not to be measured.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve photoelectric sensitivity and to obtain high uniformity irrespective of photoelectric surface positions by forming a film of a photoelectric surface formation material which is formed uniformly on a side of an incident window on a surface of a grid- shaped electrode and using this film as an evaporation source. CONSTITUTION:A grid-shaped electrode 22 is formed at a 0.59 mm pitch in the direction of its tube axis, at a 0.05 mm pitch in the direction of its axis, and with a line width of 0.05 mm. Vacuum evaporation of a Sb film 21 as a photoelectric surface formation material is uniformly performed on an incident window side of this grid-shaped electrode 22. The Sb film is heated by a high frequency heating device 23 which is disposed outside a cylindrical glass hermetic container 1, and this film is evaporated on an inner surface of an incident window 2 so as to be formed into a photoelectric surface 3. Since the distance from a Sb evaporation source on the surface of the grid shaped electrode to the inner wall of the incident window is then made approximately equal at respective portions, the thickness of Sb evaporated on the inner wall of the incident window can be made uniform. Hence, evaporation film thickness of the photoelectric surface formation material can be made uniform without irregularity on the inner wall of the incident window, so that uniformity of photoelectric surface sensitivity can be improved.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photomultiplier excellent in cathode uniformity by supporting the end sections of deposition rods with linear expansion absorbing means, and absorbing the elongation by the linear expansion of the deposition rods generated at the time of excitation heating. SOLUTION: A pair of deposition rods 40 extended in the direction of the tube axis A are provided between a focus disk 31 and a photoelectric surface 20. Linear expansion absorbing means 41 supporting the end sections 40a of the deposition rods 40 and absorbing the elongation by the linear expansion generated when the deposition rods 40 are excitation-heated are provided on the outsides of the end sections 40 a of the deposition rods 40. When a voltage is applied between a pair of linear expansion absorbing means 41, the deposition rods 40 are heated, the evaporated Sb is deposited on the inner face 11a of a light entrance window 11, and the photoelectric surface 20 is formed. The deposition rods 40 are linearly expanded in the axial direction during this process, however the elongation is absorbed by the linear expansion absorbing means 41. The deposition rods 40 are prevented from being bent into a bow shape.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten a photomultiplier tube which has resistors connected between a collecting electrode for receiving electrons released from a dynode of the last stage and each dynode by installing support plates for making the collecting electrode and each dynode parallel to each other, and arranging the resistors in two lines in such a manner that the dynodes are sandwiched therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A metallic plate 18 is mounted between the upper end portions of support plates 10a, 10b and is provided with an opening 19 facing the energy beam inlet of a dynode DY1 of the first stage and the dynode DY1 is connected to the metallic plate 18 so that the metallic plate 18 functions as both a shield and a reinforcing material for a photomultiplier tube. An earthed hermetic seal and other similar terminals 21, 22 are provided on a pedestal 14 and the terminal 21 is connected to the protruding piece of the dynode DY1 by a lead wire and the terminal 22 is connected to a collecting electrode A using a lead wire. Resistors R1-R16 are arranged in two lines and then the length of the photomultiplier tube is about half of that when the resistances are arranged in a line, and the lead wires L are held by the support plates 10a, 10b so that the resistors are not shaken.
