Abstract: An apparatus for connecting two electrical connectors together includes a locking collar, a first electrical connector, and a second electrical connector. The first electrical connector includes one or more electrical contacts arranged to mate with one or more electrical contacts in the second electrical connector to form an electrical connection, and the collar is arranged to receive at least a portion of the connectors and releasably lock the first and/or second connector. At least one of the electrical connectors includes a main body portion with at least one channel on a surface for cooperating with the protrusion of the locking collar, and a contact portion with a cartridge positioned within the main body portion. The contact portion further includes at least a first male contact and a first female contact connected to the cartridge. A corresponding method and electrical connector are also provided.

Abstract: A genderless electrical connector 10 comprises a pin 12 from which opposing first 14 and second 16 legs extend in the axial direction, parallel to each other, and spaced apart in the radial direction. The legs comprise a distal end 18, a proximal end 20, and a main portion 22 extending between the ends. Each leg comprises an outermost contact surface, which in use is brought into contact to matingly engage with the legs of an identical genderless electrical connector 10. The contact surface of the legs has a rough, non-polished finish. The rough finish of the contact surface may comprise microscopic peaks and troughs, the height of a peak preferably being one nanometre. A genderless electrical connector comprising a pin and opposing first and second legs, in which the distal end comprises a rounded face which slopes radially inward, is also provided. The connector may comprise a collar 30 having a planar face 32. The pin may be a crimp barrel (34, Figure 3).

Abstract: A socket contact 10 comprising: a tubular body having: a first end; a second end opposite the first end, the body having an opening 11, 12 at the first and/or second end; and a plurality of slots 13a-c forming a plurality of beam members 14a-c, wherein at least one of the beam members comprises at least a first section 15a-c that is inwardly raised relative to the remaining section of the beam members so as to form a narrower contact section within the socket contact. The socket may further comprise: a first collar 19 proximal the first end; a second collar 20 proximal the second end; and a sidewall portion 21 extending between the first and second collars, wherein the sidewall portion comprises the plurality of slots forming the plurality of beam members. The diameter of an outer surface of each collar may be larger than a diameter of the outer surface of the sidewall portion. Each end of the beam members may be fixed and anchored in the sidewall portion adjacent each collar such that when a mating pin enters the contact, they are pressed outwards and the contact section remains concentric about a longitudinal axis of the contact.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system for retaining a component to a surface, comprising: a surface; a component; and at least two elements. Each element comprises a base connected to the surface, the at least two elements comprising means for retaining the component to the surface, wherein a first means is biased to a first position in which the first means extend beyond an edge of a first base such that when the component is placed on the surface the first means are configured to move to a second position in order to retain the component in its position relative to the surface. The component comprises at least one cavity defined by at least two inner faces, and wherein upon placement of the component on the surface, the base of each element is situated solely within the at least one cavity of the component, wherein at least two bases are each situated adjacent to respective inner faces of the component within the at least one cavity. A corresponding method and an element for use with the system is also provided.

Abstract: A female electrical socket 10, for receiving an electrical pin and for connection to a PCB, comprising: a body 11 defining an enclosure and comprising a first end 11a and a second end 11b each having an opening, where the opening of the first or second end is configured to receive a male electrical pin to form a connection with the female socket. The body has a central longitudinal axis ‘A’ and the socket further comprises a plurality of contact fingers 12, 13, 14 on the body, where a first end of each of the fingers is attached to the body and a second end of each of the fingers is radially directed inwards relative to the first end towards the central longitudinal axis so that in use the fingers provide a retention force to engage with the electrical pin. A corresponding method of manufacture is also provided. Preferably each resilient finger is hinged at the first end and the body may comprise a plurality of wings 15, 16 which can be used to fix the socket to a PCB (20, figure 7).
