Abstract: An apparatus for connecting two electrical connectors together includes a locking collar, a first electrical connector, and a second electrical connector. The first electrical connector includes one or more electrical contacts arranged to mate with one or more electrical contacts in the second electrical connector to form an electrical connection, and the collar is arranged to receive at least a portion of the connectors and releasably lock the first and/or second connector. At least one of the electrical connectors includes a main body portion with at least one channel on a surface for cooperating with the protrusion of the locking collar, and a contact portion with a cartridge positioned within the main body portion. The contact portion further includes at least a first male contact and a first female contact connected to the cartridge. A corresponding method and electrical connector are also provided.

Abstract: In one embodiment is provided a method of manufacturing a female electrical contact from a piece of material by removal of material from the piece of material by machining. The removal of material comprises forming at least one first hole in a first end of the material to form a contact portion, the at least one first hole formed along a longitudinal axis; making at least two slits in the contact portion to produce contact fingers, the slits extending from the first end along at least a portion of length of the contact portion. Abstract: A genderless electrical connector 10 comprises a pin 12 from which opposing first 14 and second 16 legs extend in the axial direction, parallel to each other, and spaced apart in the radial direction. The legs comprise a distal end 18, a proximal end 20, and a main portion 22 extending between the ends. Each leg comprises an outermost contact surface, which in use is brought into contact to matingly engage with the legs of an identical genderless electrical connector 10. The contact surface of the legs has a rough, non-polished finish. The rough finish of the contact surface may comprise microscopic peaks and troughs, the height of a peak preferably being one nanometre. A genderless electrical connector comprising a pin and opposing first and second legs, in which the distal end comprises a rounded face which slopes radially inward, is also provided. The connector may comprise a collar 30 having a planar face 32. The pin may be a crimp barrel (34, Figure 3).

Abstract: An apparatus for connecting two electrical connectors together, comprising: a locking collar 100; a first electrical connector 200; and a second electrical connector 300; where the first electrical connector comprises one or more electrical contacts arranged to mate with one or more electrical contacts in the second electrical connector in order to form an electrical connection, and the collar is arranged to receive at least a portion of the first and second connectors and releasably lock the first and/or second connector. Preferably at least one of the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector may comprise a main body portion (320, figure 7) comprising at least one channel 202 on a surface for cooperating with the protrusion 106 of the locking collar, and a contact portion (330) may comprise a cartridge (340) positioned within the main body portion, wherein the contact portion further comprises at least a first male contact (332) and a first female contact (342) connected to the cartridge. Preferably the protective locking collar allows two of the same electrical connectors to have a hermaphroditic connection. Also included is a tool (500, figure 11) with means (502) for removing the contacts from the cartridge.

Abstract: A socket contact 10 comprising: a tubular body having: a first end; a second end opposite the first end, the body having an opening 11, 12 at the first and/or second end; and a plurality of slots 13a-c forming a plurality of beam members 14a-c, wherein at least one of the beam members comprises at least a first section 15a-c that is inwardly raised relative to the remaining section of the beam members so as to form a narrower contact section within the socket contact. The socket may further comprise: a first collar 19 proximal the first end; a second collar 20 proximal the second end; and a sidewall portion 21 extending between the first and second collars, wherein the sidewall portion comprises the plurality of slots forming the plurality of beam members. The diameter of an outer surface of each collar may be larger than a diameter of the outer surface of the sidewall portion. Each end of the beam members may be fixed and anchored in the sidewall portion adjacent each collar such that when a mating pin enters the contact, they are pressed outwards and the contact section remains concentric about a longitudinal axis of the contact.

Abstract: A module 10 to mount a connector to a panel such as a PCB, a body 11 of the module has a first fixing means 12 to fix the module to the panel, the body of the module also has second fixing 13 means to fix the module to a connector 17 (Figure 3). A third fixing means 20 (Figure 10) may be included which is perpendicular to the mounting surface and to the first and second fixing means. The fixing means may extend through the entirety of the body. The fixing means may include female screw threads. The second fixing means may protrude from the body and may comprise a barb 16 to engage with the connector. The module may be made from stainless steel or nickel-plated brass.

A second locking member 1010 may hold the latch on the housing. The latch includes either a surface mount (SMT) pad 1020, or a pair of through board legs (1202, Fig 12) to attach to a PCB. The latch may be made by chemical etching or stamping.
