Abstract: New N-substd. guanidine salts have formula (HO-CHR1-CHR2-(NH(CH2)m)n- NR3-C (=NH2)-NH2)pX (I) (where R1 is 1-18C alkyl; R2 is H or 1-17C alkyl, provided the C sum in R1 and R2 is 8-18; R3 is H or 1-3C alkyl; X is the anion of a p-basic non-toxic acid; m is integer 2-6; n is 0 or 1 and p is 1,2 or 3). (I) use as anti-microbial substances is claimed. (I) can be used in cleansing-, disinfectant- and preservative compsns., for textiles, floors, hospital equipment, medical instruments, schools, swimming pools, public transport, dairies, breweries and laundries, also in glues, sizes, dispersion dyes, cutting and drilling oils. (I) dissolve well in water; are stable at acid pH and have bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity.

Abstract: A method for inhibiting corrosion of nonferrous metals in contact with circulating water comprising the steps of adding to circulating water in contact with non-ferrrous metals from 0.05 to 10 gm/m3 of at least one 3-amino-5-alkyl-1,2,4-triazole wherein said alkyl has from 2 to 8 carbon atoms and adjusting said water to a pH of from 6 to 10; as well as corrosion inhibiting compositions containing said 3-amino-5-alkyl-1,2,4-triazole.

Abstract: New higher N-alkyl sulphonamide derivs. are cpds. of formula (I) R1SO2NR2R3 (where R1 is 1-3C alkyl, phenyl or p-tolyl; R2 is 10-20C alkyl; and R3 is H, 1-3C alkyl or 2-3C hydroxyalkyl). (I) are antimicrobial agents with good bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity, adequate solubility in water, reasonable to very good solubility in organic solvents, and stability over a wide pH range. They are suitable for use as cleansing, disinfectant and preservative agents for textiles, floors, medical instruments, hospital equipment, or installations such as dairies, breweries and laundries. (I) can also be used as preservatives for technical products. Because they are physiologically well tolerated, (I) may be used as antimicrobials in body-care preparations and/or cosmetics. The activity of (I) may be enhanced by combining with complexing agents having a CaCO3-binding capacity greater than 230 mg/g in the Hamshire test.
