PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink set for ink jet printing, which can give a color gamut, a low particular property, a reduced wet bleeding property, and a wet hue shift property equal to those of silver halide systems. SOLUTION: This ink set for the ink jet printing, comprising a medium cyan ink jet ink, a magenta ink jet ink and a gray ink jet ink, wherein the medium cyan ink jet ink, the magenta ink jet ink and the gray ink jet ink are constituted to have such lightnesses that the lightnesses of the inks are substantially equal to each other, when the inks are adhered to an image-receiving medium in prescribed/given liquid drops per unit area. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet ink which can produce printed images having good glossiness and durability without increasing the viscosity of the ink. SOLUTION: The inkjet ink contains a polymer-bound pigment (10) whose particle diameter can be changed to exhibit a compact form and an extended form. The polymer-bound pigment (10) can contain a pigment to whose surface at least one polymer (2) can be bound. The at least one polymer (2) can be formed from a hydrophobic monomer (4) and a hydrophilic monomer (6). The hydrophilic monomer (6) is soluble in aqueous environments, and the hydrophobic monomer (4) is insoluble in the aqueous environments. The polymer-bound pigment (10) can be dispersed in an ink vehicle to give a low viscous inkjet ink. A method for producing printed images having excellent durability and gloss is also disclosed. A gray ink composition includes an ink vehicle having a black pigment and at least one color pigment dispersed therein. An anionic dispersant is: a) dispersed in the ink vehicle; b) associated with at least a portion of a surface of at least one of the dispersed black pigment or the at least one dispersed color pigment; and/or c) combinations thereof. At least one of the black pigment or the color pigment(s) has an anionic surfactant that is associated with at least another portion of the surface thereof.

The present invention is directed to aqueous based ink compositions for ink jet printing on offset media and offset ink comprising various combinations of nonionic surfactants. Such formulations include effective amounts of an ink colorant and a nonionic surfactant having an HLB value from about 4 to 14. Optionally, additional nonionic surfactants, solvents, and binders can be added. In another formulation, an effective amount of an ink colorant, at least two nonionic surfactants, each being present at from about 0.01% to 10% by weight (preferably 0.01% to 2% by weight) and an effective amount of at least one binder (such as an acrylate binder) is disclosed.

In a four pen (12, 14, 16, 18) ink jet printer comprising cyan, yellow, magenta, and black inks, a clear liquid is applied to printed ink on a print medium (24) via a fifth pen (20), thereby fixing the colorants, which in turn improves the durability of the printed ink. The clear fixer fluid comprises at least one organic acid and, optionally, a salt of at least one polymeric acid.
