Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide pathogen and chemical detection systems for use with a user support apparatus and related methods.SOLUTION: A fluid or biologic sample from the vicinity of a person supported by a user support apparatus 10 is acquired and transmitted to a pathogen detection sensor 26. A graphical caregiver interface 30 is supplied with output from the pathogen detection sensor and detects the presence of a chemical. The graphical caregiver interface communicates with an electronic medical records database 32, alarm 38 and a nurse call system 36.
