Abstract: In the process for removing hydrogen sulphide from gases or liquids by oxidation of the sulphur, the medium containing hydrogen sulphide is treated with sulphide-oxidising microorganisms, and the hydrogen sulphide is converted into sulphate ions. The medium is preferably contacted with an aqueous solution of a heavy metal salt, whereupon the heavy metal sulphide precipitates, and the precipitated heavy metal sulphide is converted with sulphide-oxidising microorganisms into sulphate ions.
