Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a syndiotactic polyolefin having a high molecular weight, a narrow distribution of molecular weight and an extremely high syndiotatic index by (co)polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a catalyst containing a specific transition metal component. SOLUTION: An olefin represented by the formula R -CH=CHR (R and R are each H or a 1-28C alkyl) is (co)polymerized in a solution state or a suspension state or in the vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a transition metal component comprising a metallocene compound represented by formula I (M is Ti, Zr or the like; R and R are each H, a halogen or the like; R and R are each a mutually different mononuclear or polynuclear hydrocarbon, with the proviso that either one of R and R is 9- fluorenyl; R is Sn, CO or the like) and (B) an aluminoxane represented by formula II [R is phenyl, benzyl or the like; (n) is 2-50] and/or formula III at-60 to +200 deg.C under 0.5-100 bar. (Diphenylmethylene) (9-fluorenyl) (cyclopentadieny) zirconium dichloride, or the like, are preferred as the compound represented by formula I.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer having a narrow mol.wt. distribution, a high stereospecificity, m.p., crystallinity, and hardness, by carrying out an olefin (co)polymerization in the presence of a catalyst comprising a specific metallocene as a transition metal compd., an aluminoxane as a cocatalyst, and/or a specific salt-like compd. SOLUTION: A salt-like compd. used is one expressed by formulae II or III (R' is an optionally fluorinated aryl; and X is 1-3). A metallocene is a compd. expressed by the formula. In the formula, M is a group IVb, Vb, or VIb metal in the periodic table, R and R are each the same or different, H, a 1-10C alkyl group or the like; R and R are each the same or different. H, halogen, a 1-10C alkyl group or the like; R and R are each the same or different, of the same excluding H, as defined in R and R ; R is -Ge-, -O-, or the like; R , R , and R are each the same or different, H, halogen, a 1-10C alkyl group or the like; and, m and n are each the same or different, 0, 1, or 2.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a metallocene compound useful as a catalyst for synthesizing, in a high yield, high-molecular weight syndiotactic polyolefins with narrow molecular weight distribution and high syndiotactic index. SOLUTION: This new compound is a compound of the formula XR -R -R Y [X and Y are each H or Li; R and R are each a mononuclear or polynuclear hydrocarbon, one of them being 9-fluorenyl; R is of the formula R M M (R and R are each H, a halogen or the like; M is silicon, germanium or the like) or the like], pref. a compound of formula I (M is titanium, zirconium or the like; R and R are each H, a halogen 1-10C alkyl or the like; however excepting the case that R is isopropylidene, and R and R are nonsubstituted cyclopentadienyl and fluorenyl, respectively), for example, metallocene of formula II which is obtained using lithiumfluorene and 6-methyl-6-phenylfulvene as starting substances.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of a syndiotactic propylene copolymer A syndiatactic propylene copolymer is obtained in high yields by copolymerization of propylene with small amounts of other olefins in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metallocene of the formula I (see formula I) in which M1 is titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium or tantalum and an aluminoxane. This copolymer has a very high molecular weight, a very narrow molecular weight distribution, very high syndiotaxicity, advantageously low melting points and rubber-like behavior. Molded articles produced from the polymer are distinguished by high transparency, flexibility and tear strength. Their main areas of application are packagings of any type.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of a high molecular weight olefin polymer A very active catalyst system for olefin polymerization is composed of an aluminoxane and a metallocene of the formula I (see formula I) wherein preferably M1 is Zr or Hf, R1 and R2 are alkyl or halogen, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, R5 and R6 are alkyl or haloalkyl, -(CR8R9)m-R7-(CR8R9)n- is a single-membered or multimembered chain in which R7 may also be a (sub- stituted) hetero atom, and m+n is zero or 1. The catal- yst system gives polymers having a high molecular weight and high stereospecificity.

Abstract: A high molecular weight ethylene/propylene copolymer (I) has an ethylene content of 1-10 wt.%, a melt flow index (MFI 230/5) of less than 5 dg/min. and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 6-20. Also claimed is a 2-stage process for the production of (I) by copolymerisation of ethylene and propylene, optionally with another 4-20C 1-olefin, in suspension at 30-150 degrees C and 10-100 bar for 0.5-6 hr. in presence of a catalyst (A), an organoaluminium compound (B) and an organosilicon compound (C), in which stage 1 is carried out using the monomer itself as suspension medium to give polypropylene with a viscosity of 500-1400 ml/g and comprising 20-80% of the total polymer (I), and the product after stage 2 (i.e. polymer I) has a viscosity of 400-700 ml/g and Mw/Mn = 6-20.
