Abstract: Method is effected using flotation. Collectors are 1-amidoethyl-imidazolines having formula (I): (where R1 and R2 are 8-22 (pref. 12-18)C alk(en)yl gps.). A standard flotation process is used. (I) is added to flotation slurry contg. the ground, crude ore. Foaming- and auxiliary agents may be added. (I) are used esp. for collecting pyrochlore, columbite, pandaite, betaphite, etc. (I) do not collect quartz, calcite and other contaminating minerals. Concn. achieved with (I) is higher than that achieved by using 1-hydroxyalkyl-2-or 1-aminoalkyl-2-alkyl imidazolines as collectors.

Abstract: Novel dithiophosphoric acid esters of formula (I) are claimed as is also pptn. and flotation of heavy metals from mineral acids by use of (R-(OC2H4)x-O)2PS2M (I) where R = branched 9-18C alk(en)yl; M = H, Na, K or ammonium; and x = 0-6, pref. 0-4. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) can be used to remove Zn, Cd, Hg, Cu, Ni or As esp. from crude phosphoric acid (e.g, as obtd. in wet processing to give crude phosphates) or from H2SO4 (e.g, dil. waste acid from Pb batteries). Not only does the use of higher isomers of the alcohols as ester-forming components more strongly reduce the solubility of the heavy metals complexes as compared to that attained using the `Cd-collector' dithiophosphoric acid esters of US 4634580, but the flotation of the complexes is also increased. Also, the flotation is increased with increasing distancing of the C side chain of the alcohol from the ester band (i.e. with terminal branching). Use of (I) can reduce the amt. of heavy metals in mineral acids by over 95%.

Abstract: New dithiophosphoric acid esters of formula (I) (R(OC2H4)xO)2PS2M are claimed. R = branched 9-18C alk(en)yl; M = H, Na, K or NH4; x = 0-6 (0-4). (I) are used in pptn. and flotation of heavy metals from waste water. R = 9-18C alkyl with terminal branching. The amt. of (I) used is at least 2 (3-10) mols w.r.t. 1 mol of heavy metal cation. A foaming agent, esp. cetylmethylammonium bromide, may be added, or an anti-foam, esp. a sulphonic acid or an oil acid. ADVANTAGE - The esters are more stable in aq. soln. than the esters of linear alcohols; the solubility of the heavy metal complexes is much lower and their flotability is greater. The redn. in the content of heavy metals in waste water is above 95%.
