Abstract: 1500825 Demulsifying crude oil emulsions HOECHST AG 24 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974] 39095/75 Heading C5E [Also in Division C3] A process for the separation of water from crude oil emulsions comprises adding to the stationary or flowing emulsion from 2 to 100 p.p.m. of a demulsifying agent which is a condensation product that has been prepared by (a) preparing an addition product of an aliphatic aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde, and phenol in a molar ratio of from 1:1 to 3:1 at a temperature of from 50‹ to 80‹ C. in the presence of an alkaline catalyst; (b) preparing a block copolymer from a polypropylene glycol having a molecular weight from 1500 to 2500 by the addition of from 30 to 50% by weight of ethylene oxide in the presence of an alkaline catalyst; and (c) condensing from 0À5 to 4 moles of addition product (a) with 1 mole of block copolymer (b), after neutralization, with an acid, if necessary in the presence of an inert solvent at from 80‹ to 150‹ C., and simultaneously removing the water formed. The demulsifying agent used may be dissolved in water and/or an organic solvent.

Abstract: Higher alcohols, useful as intermediates for surfactants, are produced in high yields at high conversion by paraffin oxidn. in process where orthoboric acid is introduced into initial 10-25 (esp. 12-15) C paraffin mixt. heated to >=170-175 degrees C. and dissolved under quick far-reaching dehydration. Paraffin oxidn. takes place for some time at same temp., by passing in O2-contng. gas mixtures, and is completed at 130-165 (esp. 150-155) degrees C. Pref. 5-10, esp. 5-6,% boric acid, w.r.t. paraffin, is used. Pref. induction period after dissolution of boric acid is 5-45, esp. 15-30, min. Pref. oxidising agent is N2 contng. 2-10, esp. 4-5, % O2, used in amts. of 400 l./hr./kg. of paraffin.
