Abstract: Benzimidazo-[1,2-a]-quinolines, of the general formula which may be substituted, are prepared by reacting 2-alkoxy-benzaldehydes with 2-phenylsulfonylmethylene-benzimidazoles. The compounds are strongly fluorescing and can be used as optical brighteners and fluorescent dyestuffs.
