Abstract: 1,220,180. Vinyl acetate. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 22 March, 1968 [22 March, 1967], No. 14021/68. Heading C2C. Vinyl acetate is prepared by reacting ethylene, molecular oxygen and acetic acid in the gaseous state in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound of palladium and an acetate of a metal of main group I and/or of a metal of Group 2 of the Mendeleef Periodic Table, or a mixture of such acetates, as well as, if desired, a redox system, wherein further amounts of the catalytically active acetate or acetates are added to the reaction zone during the reaction in order to compensate for any loss thereof during the reaction. Examples describe various ways of accomplishing the addition, both continuously as is preferred, and discontinuously. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,188,737.
