Abstract: Dispersions of pigments, disperse- or vat-dyestuffs, wherein the dispersing agent is formed either by co-condensation of a phenolic component, formaldehyde and an alkali metal sulfite or of a sulfonated phenolic component and formaldehyde. These dispersions are characterized in that the dispersing agent used shows an improved dispersing effect. Furthermore, they can also be used when being neutralized for the dispersing alkali sensitive dyestuffs and they show no tendency to soil the fabrics so that also clean shades may be dyed.

Abstract: 1328933 Chlorinated paraffin sulphonic acids and salts FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 11 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 16602/72 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions A5 and C5] The calcium salt of chlorinated n-paraffin sulphonates is prepared by passing chlorine gas into a 60% aqueous paste of a sodium salt of a straight chain paraffin sulphonic acid having 13 to 18 C atoms in the alkyl chain, exposed to ultra-violet light produced by a mercury high vapor pressure immersion burner. 1À5 gram atoms of chlorine per mol of paraffin sulphonate is taken up during the reaction. The free chlorinated paraffin sulphonic acid is isolated and neutralized with calcium hydroxide. The corresponding magnesium and barium salts are obtained by neutralizing the free acid with magnesium and barium hydroxide respectively. The zinc salt is produced from the free acid by treatment with zinc carbonate and the aluminium salt by treatment with aluminium triisopropylate.
